This is a bad solution to a situation that needs attention. Better solutions are conceivable. AEA should participate in an inclusive discussion with all those affected before taking any action.

I'm conflicted about this issue. I strongly believe that actors should be paid for their work and I also recognize that ending the 99 seat plan will eliminate scores of theaters in our city that contribute enormously to the cultural life of our artists and the public. But I do support an actors right to choose to participate in the small theater venues to practise his/her craft, in essence, to be an actor.

AEA member and not happy with the AEA proposal. Changes are needed but this move by AEA is misguided and clearly indicates how out of touch AEA is with the Los Angeles theatre community.

Equity member since 1985. Lived in LA when the waiver wars were fought in the '80s. I sincerely wish my union would start doing the job of going after producers who are TRULY exploiting actors and stop harassing those who are, for the most part, impoverished, relatively defenseless, and in a great majority of cases union members who are self-creating the only truly fulfilling work available to them in the Los Angeles area.

I'm an AEA member and know from first hand experience that the 99-seat plan is vital to the artistic heartbeat and soul of the theatre community. In addition it starts and nurtures and furthers acting careers. It has mine. And producers do not make tons of money off these productions. Take it away, no one will be making money.

This is unrealistic and will really make it hard for small theaters to survive in L.A.! Don't do it!
