I am a working actor and I belong to Equity and SAG/AFTRA . I believe the 99 seat plan needs changes but the proposed AEA plan would be disastrous . I urge all Equity members to vote NO in the AEA referendum.

I moved to LA in1978. Tehatre here was BAD then. Took years for the 99 seat plan to settle in, but once it did, the work SO IMPROVED.

I have toyed with the notion of letting my Equity membership lapse, even though I was and continue to be proud I joined, because of positions like the ones currently being considered by the council. It is hard enough for someone living on the outskirts of the greater Los Angeles area to find work, to be able to practice the craft I've worked so hard on, and to now be threatened by my own union with potentially closing down many of the venues I do find work at seems wrong-headed in so many ways. Please, reconsider your stance. Thank you.

Please allow actors the right to choose to VOLUNTEER their services to a 99-Seat Production, which can help open to bigger oppurtunities. Without this plan, they lose the biggest benefit that LA Actors can have, experience, exposure, and opportunities.

I'll just say this about my Equity epxerience. I have worked more under the 99-seat theatre plan than I did under Equity. I got into Equity, as a stage manager, through my 99-seat theatre work. Unfortunately, I was never able to work enough Equity hours to get any of the benefits. Went on leave. Only getting the newletter didn't seem to be worth the dues. I get more support for my 99-seat theatre people, even if they are members of a union, than I did from being a member of any union.

Proud AEA member since 2000 here: Let's reform the existing 99 Seat plan, not abolish opportunities that provides indelible fulfillment and CREATES MORE WORK. Casting directors who attend 99 seat theatre are casting those they see there, as one of myriad examples. No one is forcing us to do 99 seat theatre, it's a choice. Respectfully, please hear our voice.

I'm an 84-year-old actress still working in a rich, creative theatre environment in many 99-seat houses with talented young actors, writers, directors. Tampering with our acting opportunities only serves to choke development of valuable new material and respected revivals of classics. Please heed the passionate messages you are receiving from all levels of our theatre community.! del.
