I am Equity, but living in Los Angeles, I have come to realize that Equity productions in this town are few and far between. This is not New York. We do not have Broadway, and the fact of the situation is that if the 99 Seat Equity Waiver Production is eliminated, theatre in Los Angeles will most likely become obsolete. Most productions cannot afford to pay an actor contract role compensations. Now, what I do feel could benefit actors greatly is enforcing a minimum amount per performance, no less than $50 a performance. This would give actors in Equity Waiver situations at least $150 a week..that I could live with.

This will be the end of smaller theaters in LA. I hope it doesn't happen. I have enjoyed theatre in LA for many years, and want it to continue to grow to rival Chicago theater, where I am from. AEA, what are you thinking??

I have tons of friends who are Equity and I am genuinely scared for them and the companies they are with. It's the equivelent of tearing a famy apart. I'd Equity is pushing to pass this, why not also have a plan that goes along with it to provide funding? Build that up first. Aren't you concerned that the members of your Union are only making $7 a day? There is something terribly wrong with that.

I am an Equity member and, if this plan is in effect, will probably never work again unless I self-produce. I do think lifting performance and ticket price restrictions are in order. But the truth is, why would a producer hire me, an Equity member, and have to pay minimum wage when they can hire a non-union actor. Theater in LA is not a money-making venture... it's about the passion for the art.
