Dean Wurst, this can wait!

The impending move of Michigan State University (MSU)'s department of Religious Studies (REL) to the home of the Department of Philosophy (PHIL) on the fifth floor of South Kedzie Hall can wait. MSU faculty, staff, and students have all expressed concern over the timing and justification for this move associated with the implementation of 'pod structures' across the College of Arts & Letters (CAL). We, the undersigned, reject Dean Wurst's timeline because . . . . . . Dean Wurst's proposal for 'pod structures' throughout CAL will disrupt the office and professional situations of department faculty, staff, and graduate assistants not only in the immediate future, but for a long time to come . . . . . . A move of this scale is too great to achieve in the next several months due to the unavailability of many faculty, staff, and graduate assistants who call this space home . . . . . . Morrill Hall, current home of REL, is not scheduled to be demolished for another three years! (2012) . . . We, the undersigned, request that the proposed move of Religious Studies to Philosophy be postponed until Summer of 2010 at the very earliest.
