The Alexandria City Council is not above the Code Law of Virginia. As elected officials they must adhere to laws of the state, clever loopholes are a complete and total abuse of power. Their proposed text amendment 2007-0003 Smoke Free Restaurants is a blatant abuse of power. The regulation itself states that: \"under current Virginia law the City is prohibited from adopting a direct ban on all smoking in restaurants and bars\". No one is above the law, not even elected officials. We urge the City Council to vote down Text Amendment 2007-003 because it is illegal. The tax payers should not pay for lawsuits that surely will follow should this ordinance be passed.
