As a public school social worker in Waldo County I see too many people going without due to lack of resources. This is wrong. Health insurance for the poor and underprivileged needs to be boosted without a doubt. Expanding MaineCare is a good responsible, humane way to go.

As a program with a majority of Maine citizen backing, as well as a majority in the legislature, this is long overdue for passage.

To keep Maine's population healthy, we must take into account the rural nature of this state, the percentage of people living in poverty and the amazing number of people working for themselves who need and have a right to affordable and comprehensive health care. As a mental health care provider, I see consumers in our community fail to receive health care both physical and mental due to punitive MaineCare regulations, lack of transportation and exorbitant, restrictive private health care premiums and co-pays. A healthy state is a productive state.

As a social worker, I see the impact non-expansion has on our community and our citizens. It is time to expand Medicaid and strengthen our communities and increase the overall health and well-being of our people.
