We, the undersigned, urge the Beacon City School District Board of Education to vote NO to the proposal, which includes allowing a fire station to be built on Sargent property next to the current access road on Wolcott Avenue that leads to the back of Sargent School.
We, the undersigned, urge the BOE to vote NO to the alternative proposal, which includes building municipal parking lots on either side of the access road if the fire station were to be built across the street on the Elks Lodge property.
**Our opposition to this proposal is not a reflection on the city's firehouse consolidation efforts, but solely opposition to using Sargent land to build a fire station campus and/or additional municipal parking lots.

im still getting tons of emails from people worried about the traffic safety issues if this actually happens. its clear that a lot of us feel the same way about keeping the school property for the kids and not for city projects. i am working on getting our concerns in front of the board before the next big vote.

the momentum behind this is honestly wild and shows how many of us dont want the school property touched. it feels like people are really paying attention now which is exactly what we need to keep the pressure up.

Why would you build a fire station and have a parking area where all of our children are walking twice a day, 5 days a week? Doesn't seem safe. And I'll also add that it is a very pretty piece of property that is a pleasure to pass every day. No thank you.
This should not move forward with out thorough public involvement over a longer period of time. Nor should it move forward at all until our new superintendent has been in place for a year and able to weigh in on such an important matter.
I say NO to building a consolidated firehouse on this property. This portion of 9D is a section where people speed, and do not stop for pedestrians on the crosswalk. There have been multiple accidents at the light on 9D and Tioronda, just yards away from the proposed site. What safety measures would be put in place to guard children walking to school if there is a speeding firetruck exiting the driveway?
I think this area should be considered for a larger rec center. The programs are flourishing and we need a place to home this growth. This spot would be ideal for this excellent community resource to thrive
This area is too close to the school and would endanger young children walking on the sidewalk. The noise from alarms would also be disruptive to lessons. To protect our community, the city needs to find a better spot.
This is ridiculous. I hope the BOE doesn't cave on this. The safety of the children should come first. Either proposal is a risk to the families of Sargent.

I feel the city has not done its due diligence in informing the Sargent community about this proposal. The manner in which it was presented was incomplete at best, and Sargent families have more questions than answers. So far, no evidence has been presented as to how this will benefit the students. If there is no tangible benefit to Sargent students and families, then this property should be left as is. Our city is growing and with new housing being built all over town, the school may need to expand in the future. No more short sighted land deals - just because it is open space does NOT mean it should be developed.
