I AM A TOWN OF RAMAPO
RESIDENT (OR TOWN OF CLARKSTOWN RESIDENT LIVING NEAR THE PROPOSED ZONE CHANGE)
and I petition the Town of Ramapo Town Board to not approve the proposed
amendment to the Town of Ramapo Comprehensive Plan to downzone the Pascack
Ridge area from R-15 to MR-12 zoning.
The Town of Ramapo is
considering a planning zoning change that can accommodate up to 295 new homes
in a area of only 28.5 acres which is environmentally sensitive with wetlands,
a county river, steep slopes and a utility easement. This change is not only inappropriate
for the area, it is a dangerous precedent for future zoning changes for
adjacent R-15 areas.
The proposed plan is opposed
by neighborhood residents benefits primarily only two developers. The plan is
not in the interest of the majority of existing residents of the Town of Ramapo and our
neighbors in the Town of Clarkstown. The Town of Ramapo has not analyzed the
zone change in the context of the existing comprehensive plan and appears to be
illegal spot zoning.
The proposed plan puts the environmental resources on the property at risk. In addition, the plan will dramatically increase traffic, increase the need for public services, will exacerbate the current problems with the East Ramapo School District, and will cause major changes to the visual appearance of the neighborhood.
I support ROSA 4
Rockland's efforts to promote sustainable development in the Town of Ramapo and
to oppose environmentally unsustainable over development.
Please act responsibly and do not approve the zone change.
Consider the interests of the neighborhood, the Town of Ramapo, and the environment. Stop catering to what is beneficial only for the developers and act responsibly. Do not approve the proposed amendment to down zone and do not approve high density zoning in this area.
