The trickle down of the bill would be significantly harmful to Utah. Please consider all outcomes, as well as looking at the statistics of other states that have passed similar bills, while making your decision.

This would negatively affect hundreds of bloggers whose livelihoods depend on affiliate marketing. Please reconsider. I read today that when other states have passed similar laws, companies tend to leave. Then everyone loses out.

Affiliate income makes up part of my income, this would really hurt many families in the state, and the state would not only not make the sales tax (because retailers will simple cut ties with affiliates) but the state would lose the income tax from our businesses. Please vote no!

As a single mother of 3 I have been able to be home to raise my kids through income generated by my blog. This will kill my business and force me to move out of state. If this bill passes it will collapse a micro economy in the state of Utah putting thousands of bloggers out of business. Utah has some of the most successful bloggers and vloggers in the world. Shut this bill down!

I just started out as an affiliate blogger but passing this bill would be bad for all affiliate bloggers. Being an affiliate blogger will allow me to be a stay at home mom with out worrying about every penny we earn.

As a single mom with full financial responsibility of my four children--and a proud Utah-based blogger--seeing this bill pass would be devastating, to say the least. Being able to work with affiliate marketing companies (like Amazon and Clickbank) has made it possible for me to both work from home, care for my family and thrive in this beautiful corner of the world. Should these companies sever ties with our state, as they have in other nexus states, my income would drop dramatically--and so would my state taxes, my ability to shop local and my ability to work in Utah. Rather than spiking revenue for our state, it will most assuredly hurt thousands of small business owners. Let's look out for the people who truly serve our local economy, creating a vibrant culture of entrepreneurialism, rather than slam doors shut for those who reside in our state.

As a former blogger and current city council member, I can tell you I understand the good intent of these bills, but recognize how they fall short. These bills won't force online retailers to collect sales tax--they'll sever ties with Utah business who act as affiliates just as they've done in NY, MN, PA and CO. The hoped for tax revenue was drastically below predicted levels while shutting down businesses whose livelihood is dependent on that income. I support Utah being able to collect sales tax from online transactions, but this is a federal fight. Please vote against HB235 and SB182 and take the 10,000+ Utah affiliate marketers out of the crosshairs of this fight.

Please vote no on this bill! Bloggers that use affiliate links are only advertising a product that their readers may purchase from another company. Bloggers receive a small commission for every purchase.
