Rewarding those that have not been good stewards of state money is not the solution. We need to go back to the drawing board.

This bill must be voted down. Pulling money from districts that are doing well is not going to fix what's wrong with CPS. Money can't buy values and a want to succeed. Let's stop trying to punish those who've worked hard and work hard to get ahead to reward those who don't. Let Cook county take care of itself.

Thank you for spearheading this effort to defeat SB16. Throwing more money at the problems with CPS will not solve the problem. Solving this probem begins "at home" with a massive cultural change; fam,ilies need to begin to VALUE education, instil in their children the importance of a good education, and support their children's education through any and all methods-reading to them, questioning their comprehension, using math in everyday life (such as price comparisons),etc. Parents who view cps as the least expensive day care are unlikely to raise life long learners. Parents are children's first teachers and they need to step up to the plate to be the best teachers they can possibly be. Then, MAYBE, the performance of the children will increase. And taking money from sububan districts will only hurt the areas where students are doing better because their parents value the educational process, support their children's education, and encourage their children to perform and succeed as much as possible.

I am so very saddened at the proposal of this bill. I moved to St. Charles and pay terribly high property taxes to send my children to these schools. Where is the fairness in this bill?

Bad idea, not only for the short term, but for long term as well, as housing values would drop with an underfunded, and therefore underperforming school district. While recognizing the need to properly fund all Illinois school districts, how about attacking waste and mismanagement of funds at hand. One example is the number of school districts that could be reduced or at a minimum combine services to operate more efficiently.
