vote No on Option #3

I hereby vote no for option "3" of the Sylvania schools redistricting proposal. This signature also represents a positive vote "yes" for option "1" of the Sylvania schools redistricting proposal.

Vote to keep maplewood an elementary school

STRONGLY prefer option #1

Maplewood is set up as a neighborhood elementary school. Families and kids can walk to the school and play on the playground. It is also one of the new buildings specifically designed for elementary students. Please do not waste my money.

My husband and I did not want to move out of this area only because we did not want to take our child out of Maplewood simply because he loves his school and has friends of all ages there. Although, there are times where changes are necessary, to uproot our young children to a different school, in a different area is careless, extreme and impractical on many levels. Sylvania has two junior high schools right around the corner and it is questionable why there should be another one for 2 completely different grades. Also, most of these kids, K-4, live right down the street from Maplewood. To move five grades worth of children from a school that they love, and cram them into a different school with the children who already attend there - seems to be an impulsive decision that will cause a whole new set of problems for everyone. Let's consider that Maplewood elementary was constructed to appropriately accommodate all of our children who are k-5. It would be an irresponsible and drastic decision to allow two grades worth of our children to sparsely spread out in a practically brand new building. Finally I want to say that junior high school use to be 7-8 grade and there was nothing wrong with that; When it was decided for junior high to be 6-8 grade, that was also fine; and if there is yet another notion to have a separate pre-junior high, then as a community we can figure out a reasonable solution. So, whatever the ambiguous interpretation for junior high age students, it should not be at the expense of our little ones.

Sylvania is making this redistricting (reSTRUCTURING!) WAY TOO complicated. In respect of long time homeowners (aka Taxpayers), children who need STABILITY & CONSISTENCY in a world that's not & a brand-new building created for LITTLE ones...SAVE THE DRAMA & vote #1!

Option 1 only!!

My youngest son will never get to experience the joy of going to scho at Maplewoo and I hate to see wonderful teachers lose what they have worked hard for and have created to teach our young ones. We will also lose our Cubscout pack we have worked hard to maintain and uphold for young youths!!

Neighborhood schools are vital to the fabric of our community. Three transitions in 4 years presents additional challenges to students with special needs. Too many unanswered questions remain for option 3 to be considered viable

There are no perfect options for redistricting and someone will most certainly be left feeling upset at whatever is decided in the end, however option 3 in it's current form makes the least amount of sense. Dividing the district into two feeder systems not only discourages one of the committees stated goals of "better utilization of district resources" by segregating students and teachers, but this model also reinforces cliques and potentially bullying as children will be continually exposed to the same groups of kids throughout their school years. I cannot see how traffic congestion throughout the district is not affected by buses and families driving completely across the district multiple times a day for school pick ups, drop offs and activities. This is terrible for children to have to transition to 4 schools (5 for those currently enrolled and going through the transition). How can teachers be effective in the middle grades when they only have students for 2 years? How will special needs students get the services and relationships with educators they need to thrive when they are being bounced between so many buildings? Sending children on buses past closer schools to their homes is fiscally irresponsible and has to increase the likelihood of traffic accidents.

Option 3 makes no sense at all!! And, it is not in the best interest of those Maplewood Elem students or their families. The school redistricting committee needs to put those families first instead of what they themselves want to see happen.

Option 3 is a terrible idea. If we wanted our children to attend Whiteford Elementary we would have purchased a home in Whiteford's district. Save Maplewood Elementary.

There is no sense in driving PAST TWO OTHER schools to take my child to a borderline toledo school. I PAY CITY TAXES!

Option #3 is terrible! I think that having separate schools for 5th through 8th grade is a bad idea. I agree that changing Maplewood has ramifications that are bad for so many reasons. But most of all, this option is horrible for my family because it has my son attending 5 different schools from 3rd grade to 9th. He will be moved from his current elementary school which is less than a mile away to a new elementary school on the other side of town. I attended 8 different schools growing up and did not want that for my kids.

I live on Allen Street exactly half a mile from Silvan and one mile from Maplewood. please explain the logic, if any, behind sending my children to a school 3.5 miles away.
