Although my son will be finishing junior school next year, i am signing this petition on behalf of my friends who have younger children at the AA junior school. It is my belief that parents are sending their children to the AA junior school with the expectation of them achieving the necessary requirements to enter the secondary school successfully. If the school is asking for entrance exams then that shows a low level of faith in the school itself.

It is unacceptable and unethical on behalf of the American Academy to ask for entrance exams from children that were prepared by the Academy itself. You cannot abandon your own students that spent their first 6 years of education in your institution.

The decision of the AAS school with regards to an entrance exam is unacceptable considering that they (The American Academy as a unified body) have received tens of thousands in tuition from us over the years without any effort to improve the level of education our children are receiving. I have two children in the AA Junior school, one in G5 and one in G2, so I have been through 3 changes in leadership and 3 changes in curriculum. This is not fair on the children to have to pay the price for the gross negligence of the situation and label them as incompetent. Give the children the quality of education they deserve and we pay for, bring in qualified, able teachers before you decide to disrupt their futures.

I believe that since I’ve chosen AA, my child should receive the standard of education expected from a private school. The AA should have a higher standard than public schools and if that is not the case then they owe it to their students to look into it and fill any gaps. We did enter the school with the idea that my child will not have to compete for a place in the senior school therefore I do not agree with limited spots for junior children in the senior school thus no exams.

1. I agree that JS children should achieve proper level to transmit to SS.
2. The JS should have such high education standards that the majority of kids should achieve this level smootly without problems.
3. Any limitation of spaces for JS kids is unacceptable.
3. If anybody said that public school kids have higher level of education I am expecting and demanding immediately actions of JS, with coordination of SS, CEO and Board, to improve the education level .
4. We put our kids to AA because we all believe with any doubts that AA provides the highest possible level of education. It is how it presents itself. That's why we pay a money for.
5. I am informed that in Y1 of SS many of public school kids have no fluent English and the teaching is lead in greek as well. This is inconvinient and for JS kids who have excellent english this is wasting their time and our money. So for now SS can use this year to align the kids. Let's leave aside that JS kids are not let in one class in Y1 but they are mixed with the public school kids who speak greek instead of english which is very unpleasant for our JS kid. For me taking an entering exams in Greek to English school with English education system is very questionable.
6. Finally AA presents itself as a school which provides the education from nursery to University entrance education. JS and SS is one school leading by 1 Board and 1 CEO. To take an entering exams to the school you already attend is ABSURD and unacceptable.

I was deeply shocked when I heard about the proposed changes in school's policy. I think it is absolutely unacceptable that there is any discussion at all whether children of the JS should be able to advance to Senior School (SS). If a child reaches the minimum level, he/she should automatically be transferred to the senior school. If the grades are not sufficient then he/ she has to repeat the year. In my opinion first serve the junior school after that the classes can be filled up with external pupils. After up to 8 years I think this is the minimum loyality that we have to request from AA. This is common sense in almost every private school worldwide and I see no reason why it should be different in Larnaca. The PTA has my utmost support in challenging this with the board of the AA.

As a parent, we chose the best private school in larnaca, as a good school, all the students are required to take the exam and pass the exam before entering which I can totally understand, but as a kid who studies in the school around eight years, American Academy is his school. The kids don't know the difference between AA junior with AA, High demands on children at school is better for us. But we do believe that AA will all receiving the kids from their Junior.
