Ogden's overcrowding issue was already successfully addressed with the middle school's move into the high school building. Ogden students will not benefit by the merger, but rather, their learning will be disrupted by the many challenges afflicting Jenner. The real winners in this merger are the developers in the area, who will be try to inflate real estate values by using the school as a selling point.

As a parent to a 5 year girl, I m extremely concerned with this merge. CPS, this merge will bring down an outstanding school. Also, Ogden will start loosing large amount students. It's not politics. It's the future of every student who goes to Ogden we are talking about. What a shame with the highest tax we pay, we can't just keep this nice neighborhood school my daughter can go to and feel good about. I m hoping CPS listens to parents, not influenced by political agenda!!!

Just as Jenner parents are fighting to keep theirs schools so are the Ogden. We are different with different philosophies on education future and politics. The economy is picking up and I believe this fight was from the past presidents administration. Lets keep talking out of the schools and focus on providing education as separate schools. Each school can be strong academically separately-I am sure a teacher will not protest to this.
I do not think either side wants this merger. Many people are afraid to speak in fear of political correctness. This is a school-- its not about culture and diversity or government involvement. This is about getting grades and getting a job one day. when you apply to college they ask for your GRADES, SCORES and HOW YOU COMPETE WITH OTHERS.
Like it or not we are going to lose our jobs to international countries AGAIN because we can not acknowledge that we get sucked up in this system of diversity, integrity, the common good. All these are nice in real life and are a true exercise of american privilege and culture but does not work for COMPETITION.
Other countries want us to think this way to win and get rich while we suffer and pay tax. Wake up people, We have bigger fish to fry and we are being used by politics not to move the kids forward.
If congress can not come together to pass bills, why should we expect the kids to fight our fight.
Lets do a traditional program and let them explore diversity outside the classroom. I hope for IB status and a GOOD MATH PROGRAM, whats going on here. I work every minute of my life to afford living in the Ogden district, My taxes are paying you--what are you doing for ME.

This will absolutely bring down the prestigious and excellent standing of Ogden elementary school. The school will also lose the IB curriculum. This plan will only create tremendous problems and will lose a large amount of students. Merger is the worst plan ever and does not work at all. Principal and CPS, listen to Ogden parents and come up with an acceptance plan to expand the school, not merging with another school that will have all parents concern and jeopardize our students.

the forces behind this effort are clearly politically driven and NOT based on input from parents. the "vote against" petition has 169+ signatures, while "vote for" petition (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/jenner-ogden-merger-support) has 119 signatures. meanwhile, the recommendations report just published (http://www.jenner-ogden-merger.com/uploads/9/2/5/4/92543954/jenner_ogden_steering_committee_recommendation_letter_report.pdf) suggests that most families are voting for the merger. how is that possible? should parents be deciding what's best for their kids and how our hard-earned tax dollars are spent?

I hope Chicago will enjoy the many families that will be fleeing after this merger. They wonder why the burbs are always taking people in? Because of crap like this.

As an alum of Ogden elementary, this is one of the worst plans I have ever heard of! Ogden is going down the drain.
I do not approve of the merger between Ogden and Jenner.
Also - who will volunteer to investigate what happened to the Lake Shore East funding for a new CPS school?
Getting that facility delivered to our residents should no longer be delayed.

As Ogden parents we have been given virtually no chance to protect what we have planned for our kids future here. Our work and home is near school. This should be Ogden's decision; why are we putting our plans aside to help a school that is not in our neighborhood? All in the name of overcrowding? What is the real incentive for those pushing it?

Can you believe this? Catalyst Chicago is now calling this travesty 'historic, parent-led effort to integrate', completely glossing over the fact that Ogden parents weren't even asked for their opinion about the merger!

My granddaughter goes to Ogden kindergarten and I am against solving the problem by impacting the quality of education of the existing students. I am also VERY worried about safety of my granddaughter and other kids. Another concern is that the Ogden principal has not been informing the parents about his plans and therefore is not considering what parents opinions and impact on their kids.
