The residents of Vista Ridge wish to formally express their concerns regarding the proposed construction of over 30 new homes near the roundabout at Vista Parkway and Mountain View. We are particularly worried about the exacerbation of already hazardous traffic patterns on Vista Parkway, which have deteriorated over recent years. This appeal does not seek to halt development but rather to urge a comprehensive, data-driven analysis to assess the existing traffic safety issues in the area and the potential impact of the new development.
Details:
- Since the closure of County Line Road as an access point to Highway 7 several years ago, Vista Parkway has become a favored route to Highway 7, leading to an estimated fourfold increase in traffic. This surge has resulted in frequent incidents of excessive speeding, with drivers often recklessly navigating the roundabout at Vista Parkway and Mountain View, causing tire screeches and dangerous driving conditions with them going "pedal to the metal" off of the roundabout. This is witnessed daily.
- The proposed development threatens to further increase traffic volume and introduce years of construction-related disruptions, heightening safety concerns for local families.
Request to Erie:
- Delay the development and conduct a thorough, data-driven study to evaluate the impact of the proposed development on traffic volume and safety for nearby residents.
- Consider implementing measures such as speed bumps on Vista Parkway and developing alternative routes to Highway 7 like reopening County Line and Hwy 7, or connecting Bonanza Drive to Vista Parkway, to alleviate traffic safety issues.
- Present the findings and potential solutions to the residents of Vista Ridge before proceeding with any development plans.
