Villanova Petition to Resume Recruitment

Please work with the Heads Greek Life and their national counterparts to solution a safe & effective process in order to continue Rush especially when there is only 14 days left until Bid night. A blanket cancellation of all Rush is inherently against the core values of the University. Those organizations that are following guidelines are being punished with the same magnitude as the organizations who are not. Therefore, an entire class will miss out on the unity and inclusion of these organizations on campus due solely to the transgressions of a portion of Greek Institutions who have violated the rules. Although definitely easier for the administration to have a sweeping cancellation of Rush, wouldn’t it be more productive to request a detailed plan from each Greek organization on their process along with an assigned moderator from the university to ensure continued compliance for those already following the guidelines and keep the cancelled Rush for those that have not followed the Universities established guidelines?

To be completely honest, the decision to postpone sorority and fraternity recruitment until April does not reflect the strong sense of community that Villanova preaches. Freshman are not being provided with the opportunity to assimilate into the student body and the vast majority of them are struggling to create meaningful relationships and find a sense of purpose at the university. For Villanova's upperclassmen, postponing recruitment five days before the event was scheduled to begin is extremely disrespect. These young men and women have put countless hours into creating a safe and practical recruitment process that would allow Villanova students to connect via Zoom. To postpone rush so impulsively is a huge disservice to our community members and a very disappointing decision of Villanova.

Really ? Another disappointment for these kids not having a senior year of high school and now making their freshmen year even more miserable? Why isn’t their mental health considered as big of an issue?

All I can say is I saw a lot of tears last night... the counseling center isn’t going to be able to handle the influx of crying girls due to rush being postponed. Get it together nova.

Please please please don’t do this. We were all looking forward to rush so much just as a way to meet new friends and get some sense of normalcy and now it’s pushed back to the end of the semester .

First semester freshman year was beyond difficult for me in 2016!! Rush turned my entire Villanova experience around and I can’t imagine being a freshman right now during these uncertain times and I think this would be really unfair to postpone for so many months when it could be done virtually now.

My daughter was so looking forward to this. One of the few ways to make friends this year on campus being postponed is not fair to these girls. She was so upset.

My son is seriously considering transferring because he’s not meeting enough people.

I am an advisor for Alpha Delta Pi at Western Connecticut. I agree with every point in this petition. And it saddens me greatly to hear that Fraternities are moving forward with recruitment. I am hoping this information s false and the playing field for both Greek sides is equal.

Surely if they can do orientation in a Covid environment, they can have a virtual rush continue as planned. As long as it is completely virtual on the sorority sisters' end, this tradition should go on as planned. The kids have very little to do socially right now between Covid and the cold weather. Why take away something that so many female students can participate in that is actually safe and honors the Caritas commitment? What are all the girls going to do instead-go to parties, bars, the mall, out to eat-all things that are probably not as safe right now as a virtual rush. At the very least, postpone it a week or so to allow the Covid levels at the school to drop back down to an acceptable level (as determined by the school). This would provide incentive for 1/3 of the school to right the ship- wear masks, wash the hands and socially distance if they want to make Rush happen. Postponing until April serves no purpose. Seniors will be checked out. Some freshman will either lose interest or lose the will to get out there and try it. There will be no time for the sorority to get to know their new pledges and vice versa. Virtual sorority rush should go on, if not as planned, then in a few weeks-not punted until April.

Makes no sense not allowing these women to rush online.

As the parent of a Villanova freshmen and an alumni I implore the school to reconsider this action. Students are being injured by the extreme Covid decisions.
