VCF Opposition to Display the Socialist Republic of Vietnam's Flag on Sept 2
The City of Ottawa will fly the Socialist Republic of Vietnam's flag in honour of their Independence Day on September 2nd.
The Vietnamese Canadian Federation is calling everyone to sign this petition opposing the display of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam’s flag on September 2nd. This day is not a diplomatic event that requires the official national flag to be exposed. Furthermore the Communist government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam has been repeatedly violating human rights of the Vietnamese people resulting millions of Vietnamese risking their lives fleeing the North in 1954 and the country after 1975 in search for human rights and freedom; hundreds of thousands of lives lost at sea; husbands were separated from wives; children were forced away from parents. The flag does not speak of human rights and freedom. It does not deserve to fly in Canada.

The climb toward our first milestone is exhausting but we have to keep going. Please send this link to a few people who understand why this flag does not belong in our city.

Just ridiculous. Our mayor needs to open a history book and talk to the people who actually live here. Not cool at all.
How can the city ignore the history of so many tax paying citizens? This is wrong.
Listen to the community. We dont want this flying here.
Shame on the city for doing this. My family suffered so much under that regime and seeing that flag here in Canada is a slap in the face. Please stop this!

Mr. Mayor, You must be a nice politician, but check out to see how many VietNamese/Canadian living in Ottawa area are the boat people or refugees that left VietNam due to that flag. The Government of that flag must thank You for this action, not us. Also hope that you can stay another term to serve that flag too.

THIS FLAG REPRESENTS THE PAIN OF MY PARENTS WHO HAD TO FLEE. DO NOT FLY IT IN OUR CITY.
