Virginia Green Job Coalition Our mission is to partner with VA. legislators to create laws that will make Virginia a Mandatory alternative energy state for the purpose of securing green jobs in Virginia. Like many other states across this country, we face great economical distress. Companies are folding and jobs are diminishing to an unacceptable number. Although the federal government has made some provisions, we need to position ourselves to be able to take advantage of these provisions as they are tailored for the betterment of our future. We propose the following. * Explore the possibility of retrofitting a shutdown memory manufacturing facility in Sandston VA to be retrofitted to create photovoltaic (solar) energy manufacturer. The technology in the currently shutdown facility is very similar and could provide a turnkey solution to diminishing the jobs lost and redirecting us towards clean energy production. There is an example found int Oregon as they too were faced with the same dilemma and were able to save jobs by doing the same to a Hynix semiconductor fab. * Expand or Create a Business Energy Tax Credit program to provide a 50 percent tax credit for industrial-scale energy efficiency investments by 2010 and give local governments the authority to issue bonds for residential and business energy efficiency projects by 2010. * We encourage all legislators to move to adopt a 100% clean energy initiative by 2011, authorize the DEQ to develop a low carbon fuel standard by 2010. * We intend to enlighten all 100 House Of Representative Members and all 40 Senators in the Commonwealth on the importance of more robust Alternative Energy legislation and the realization that Virginia can ill-afford to fall behind other states and expect to compete. Moreover, Virginia could quickly secure its place as a more viable place for company's to do business in the energy sector. As employees of yet another company that has shut down and filed for bankruptcy, we find ourselves looking to the future and encouraged to go forward and try to make a difference by turning a negative into a positive. It can be done.
