The Evergreen State College's VRC serves as a vital resource for hundreds of active duty, reserve, retired, and family members using the GI Bill. Its services provide for the health, safety, security, and well-being of this protected population. We, members of the Student Veteran Organization, propose to expand the VRC to include the adjacent classroom (L1005) to provide for the needs of our ever-increasing population.

Here is the thing, the VRC serves more than academic needs. They provide a space for people like me to break away from the craziness of college and spend time with like-minded people. An expansion would mean that more people could do the things I do...study, eat, relax, figure out paperwork, and sometime just read. It would allow more networking for veterans at the school so as to create lasting friendships. This needs to happen so that the people who served our nation have the chance to transition into a happy and healthy life full of potential and opportunity.

Some our GI bills expired years ago, but still we student veterans need the support and comraderie in a facility large enough to fit our population.

I strongly support this issue. Veterans are a group that suffer greatly, are misunderstood and often not respected, yet they have and have devoted their lives to supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States of America. We have sacrificed our own safety, quality of life and years of time in this world in order to not only protect the country we all share as Americans, but stand guard so that others who share space in our college did not have to. For Evergreen to continue to claim they support veterans as they do other oppressed, targeted groups such as the disabled, LGBTQ, and people of color, they should create a safe space where we may congregate without fear of judgment. Thank you.

This expansion has been needed for quite some time. Creating a welcoming environment for our veterans at TESC is crucial to their success in education. Unfortunately, our campus climate offers a lot of push back to vets and having this enlarged sanctuary of resources will aide them in navigating what are already the tough waters of higher ed.

This would be a heaven-sent for the VRC. There are always people there beyond the capacity. Having a larger space only makes sense for the VRC.

Great idea and project to assist the veteran student. I would have used such a facility if I had one when I was going to school.
