About Us: We are the Social Democratic Party (SDP), a dedicated group of individuals committed to addressing and resolving local issues that matter most to our communities. Our focus is on advocating for the needs and aspirations of the people who live and work in Verwood, Dorset.
The Issue: Verwood, with a population of 15,000, stands as the largest town in North Dorset. It boasts three thriving primary schools, a testament to our vibrant community spirit. However, there's one critical piece missing from our educational landscape—a secondary school.
In neighboring constituencies, towns like Shaftesbury and Blandford (each with populations of 10,000) have their own secondary schools, and even Sturminster Newton (with around 5,000 residents) enjoys the benefits of secondary education within its boundaries. It's only fair that our Verwood children have the same opportunities right here in their hometown.
The Impact: The absence of a secondary school in Verwood places an unnecessary burden on our youth and their families. Our kids are forced to travel to nearby towns like Wimborne and Ferndown for their secondary education, adding travel time and expense to their already demanding school journeys.
Our Mission: The SDP is determined to change this. We believe that Verwood's young minds deserve better, and we're committed to fighting for a secondary school right here in our town.
