No more shopping at Publix for me until apologies and return to his previous job. Shame on your policies.

Corporate doesn't have to be so harsh with a long time employee. Reprimand and place a letter in his file. That is more than enough in a situation like this one. He did the right thing in quickly responding to a distressed customer who could not afford to lose that money.

Demoting a manager for helping a Publix customer is wrong! Where shopping is a pleasure, because the manager encounteres his employees to be helpful. Why would corporate down this weekend act? I understand that the possibility of being injured or killed could be a workforce rule, but to discourage his employees for doing good acts is just wrong. Publix should not disseminate helping a customer! I say we ban Publix and shop elsewhere! Let the corporation loose our money! We can spend our money at Target for groceries!

Well done sir! As a long time publix fan, if this hero suffers from doing the right thing then I for one will not shop at publix again. And I won't be silent.

If it happened in the parking lot, it would be one thing. But it happened in your store. So next time it happens and no one helps, I hope Publix will monetarily step up and help the victim. I get liability concerns but sometimes a business should side on morally higher grounds. People are more important than money.

I'm a former Publix employee. I worked for Publix for almost 10 years. I know James Caldwell personally we worked together and we were good friends too. We may have lost touch but what I remember about James is he has a big heart and is always there when someone is in need. Do not punish him for what he did, at least not to that extreme, but the least acknowledge his bravery and commitment to making sure his customers are satisfied and safe.

You should be proud of him for being a Publix manager who did this!! If anything he deserves a raise and a promotion wtf?! I've been with the company for 10 years now and I am ashamed of my company to hear this!

Publix, I assume your policy is meant to keep eemployees safe, and if you overlook this you might... God forbid, have other employees become heros too. Here's another idea, perhaps just have all your employees ignore theft, be it shop lifting or purse snatching. You'll soon have only criminals as customers. Your not overlooking the rule in this case is just as obsurd my suggested modification. Shame, shame shame.
