If Publix cannot make an exception to their rules, perhaps a boycott of Publix is in order. There are plenty of Winn Dixie's in the area.

I think he should be applauded. Even if it was policy not to give chase, shouldn't he have the sense to choose whether it was a dangerous situation or not? A can of soup wasn't stolen. It was a woman's purse. He should be awarded, not punished.

I have been a faithful customer of Publix's, shopping mostly at the Venice Ave. store for the past 10 years. I have really enjoyed shopping there and really want to continue to support Publix's but after reading Tom Lyon's story about the Manager who was demoted because he went out of his way to help a customer I have to re-think where I am shopping. If I was the one who's purse had been stolen,I certainly would want the manager and anyone else who witnessed the crime or hear my cries for help to step up and assist me. Please Publix's don't give your store a black mark on your reputation by demoting this manager. Have a heart and be proud of this person who came forward and did the honorable thing. Venice community is so proud of him. Please reconsider!

This upsets me extremely. As a previous employee of Publix, I am very ashamed hearing about this story. I pray for the best for this brave hero, as I'm sure many others do as well.

This employee deserves better... Sometimes policy's need to be updated too, not punishment dealt to a man who went above and beyond for a stranger, a customer, for his job. If every employee cared so much about their job and others, what a better world we would have.

Have always shopped at Publix but I went to Winn Dixie to shop instead & could get use to it. I decided this after hearing about this " hero" being demoted for doing the right thing I don't want to spend my $$ w/ a company who doesn't support doing the right thing.

I work in the same plaza, he seems to be a great guy and always on the floor to help Publix guests! He did a phenomenal job getting that guy...
