I was a Publix employee for 6 years and they drill into you to provide "premier customer service"
It becomes second nature to always go the extra mile for your customers when able.
Retrieving a woman's purse is definitely an example of outstanding customer service.
If the theif is pressing charges it would be better to stand by your employee!

A sad thought that a grown man is helping a rather helpless woman in a time of need to a juvenile. This juvenile will grow up and have a rap sheet longer than his life because no one helps this juvenile learn what is truely wrong. Fight back James Caldwell, you did right and will continue to be the bigger person in Publix's cowardness to abide in customer service and help fight against criminals.

Publix corporate should be ashamed of themselves. They have a stellar employee who CARES about his job & customers. STOP putting $$ ahead of the moral, ethical. well-executed & highly appreciated actions of Mr. Caldwell.

This man is a hero. Publix has to review their policy if he is a victim. He should be rewarded, not demoted.

Wow Publix/Mafia so glad it's been almost 7 years since my retirement from this company, so much for caring about you're employees, families and customers! The really awful part is if and when the decide to give him his job back and his pay, his everyday work life will never be the same, they will keep looking for something to pin on him. His Faith has got to be strong! ! Sending My prayers! !!!!

I feel so sad real Publix family many of our families being employed and are employed and they understand they're not allowed to do it now that they've heard about it but nobody agrees Publix oughta be ashamed of themselves if somebody did get hurt chasing them Publix wouldn't be responsible person chasing them takes it upon himself to do the right thing is not the wrong thing how can public stand for family and values and then do something like this to one of their employees it almost makes me sad that we had so many family people working there if this is how you're going to be they are to be better than that there's always exceptions

If that was my mom or grandmother I would pray for someone like James Caldwell to come to her aid. Demotion is way too excessive for this single act.

This could--and SHOULD--be a publicity boon for Publix if they handled it right. Courage, compassion and common sense should trump the rule, which obviously pertains to the theft of store merchandise. I am disappointed in upper management of Publix unless they right this wrong.
