While I understand this is a lifesaving one policy, when the customer herself goes to the extreme of this to defend this clerk, perhaps PR needs to TRUMP legal!

Since when is doing the right thing a punishable offense. Publix needs to get it together. The guy is a hero and should get employee of the month. This is from and LE point of view.

We all understand policy when it comes to shoplifting. Some policies have a grey area such as this one. This employee shouldn't be fired or demoted based on a human reaction. To many things in our country have gone to hell and not many people have morals and this employee does. I bet if you ask him if he'd do it again I bet he says he would. I'm going to follow this story and if it doesn't change I won't shop there again. Actually one of my customers (Mrs Barnett) whom I know you're very familiar with just might get a phone call from me. Do the right thing Publix.

Dear Publix, I am in disbelief that you would treat this employee this way after his heroic actions to help one of your customers. Honestly, to me it does not even make sense from a marketing standpoint. I feel like Publix could really play this up to demonstrate the type of character that the employees they hire have. At the very least I think Publix should have acknowledged heroic effort's. There are few brave and self-sacrificing people left in this world, and he should be rewarded for being one of them.

This man is a hero. Publix, you should be commending him-- not screwing him over for being a selfless and decent person! Give this man his pay and job back! Patrons feel safer bc, of employees like this. Now, thieves know they can get away so long as they are quick enough to get past the sidewalk... and customers will now feel less safe-- now that employees won't act bc, they fear losing their jobs! Don't be a disgrace, Publix!

He deserves reinstatement. Publix could have suspended him for violating their rules. But a demotion is too severe considering what he did was the morally right move.

I don't think the employee did anything wrong. He did the right thing. And yes it is not like he went after a shop lifer when publix could write it off. He chased a burglar, someone who stole a purse. I support the heroic act. Shame on publix. George W. Jenkins would be disappointed!
