James has always been a class act and would do anything for his employees,company and customers...he did a very good deed and is now paying for doing the right thing...i would of done the same ....

Lifelong Publix customers in my family. If we do not hear of this person being reinstated in their position and the policy amended to allow customer assistance in cases such as this, we will shop elsewhere!

No one should have to look away when they see injustice happening because of corporate policy. I understand corporate safety guidelines, but we need to protect an individual's liberty in their ethical & moral pursuits not just in their off hours but also when on the clock. We The People should not be slaves to corporate policy.

Exactly who is the intended to protect? The employee from being hurt or sued? The store from being sued? IN either case, it's human kindness be damned and that customer be damned.
How about instead, you embrace his action and use it as a PR coup for how caring Publix employees are? And give him a raise. Win/win.

I shop at this Publix every week and have nothing but high regard for these employees, it is not right to demote this young man because he did the right thing. Don't we try to instill this into our children? Now we are telling them it's the wrong thing, you can get demoted, or worse, fired. I hope Publix corporate chooses to reconsider this decision.
