One of the first things that caught my eye when we moved to Van Orden Rd. was the gorgeous Red Maples that line Van Orden Road. Pulling out of my driveway seeing the beautiful trees that were planted in 1987 and hacked down makes me sick to my stomach! The thought of any more of these precious trees being cut down would completely destroy the beauty of the street. Phil presented a great plan that will fix the drainage problem without taking any trees down. The town never notified us they would be destroying these beautiful trees or starting this construction. Please help save our trees!

I live on Van Order and part of the charm of the street was driving down and seeing these trees lining the street. Yes the town needs to address the drainage issue that effects everyone on the street. I think Phil presented a more well thought out design than was presented by the town without destroying the trees. The town also dropped the ball by not notifying the residents not only of the plans to address the problem but the start of construction until after it started.

This is an outrage. At this point, the only thing West Milford has going for it is its natural beauty. My entire life I’ve taken visitors down Van Orden Road as an example of this beauty, and to think the trees would no longer be there deeply upsets me. I hope an alternative solution can be reached. Please save our beloved trees.

What was done without first letting the homeowners know in advance I believe was intentional. It would never had happened if we were forewarned.

32 trees line our road. The town had a plan to remove 16 and eventually all of them to fix the road flooding issue. Alternate ways could have been utilized but due to the individual authority of the Township Supervising Engineer Aid, he became the sole decision maker for the removal of the trees...there was zero communication with the community. The request is:
1st-
Stop the removal of any more trees and
2nd -
Township council approve the replanting of trees that were removed and fix the damage done.
