Had scrapbooks filled with his pictures.
Met him at an airport in later years and got his autograph.he said he had not been back to Newport In many years and I said he should because I was from Rhode Island and told him of the great changes since he was a boy...he was very gracious and I as a woman in her seventies swooned!!!!

Van Johnson brings back so many wonderful memories to my mother, Nancy, who is 88. He remembers that he was so handsome and especially loved the movie "In the Good Old Summertime" with Judy Garland.

I studied screenwriting at USC under Academy Award winning screenwriter Robert Pirosh. Van Johnson starred in "Battleground," the movie for which Pirosh won his Oscar. I recently read in an article by syndicated entertainment writer Nick Thomas that William Shatner ("Star Trek's" Captain Kirk) and Van Johnson crossed paths often while they worked in summer stock theater on the New England circuit. Although I never met Van Johnson, I interviewed Shatner in 1985 for another magazine. There is yet another "Star Trek" connection to Van Johnson. In 1966, Desilu Studios greenlighted Star Trek. That was the doing of Executive in Charge Herb Solow and studio head Lucille Ball. Ball and Johnson were lifelong friends and Johnson guest starred on nearly every one of Lucille Ball's television shows. Unfortunately, Johnson never guest starred on Star Trek, but he would have been great if he had.

I idolized Van as a teenager in the 50's, along with Elizabeth Taylor and June Allyson. He was handsome, and so like the boy you wished lived next door!

Van Johnson was a great actor in a more gentile time in the US. He was an actor, singer and dancer and should be honored with a stamp.

My favorite Van Johnson role was as supporting male actor in Brigadoon.I waited for every perfect timed side remark with delight, enjoyed his play in dance and song and through him understood the remorse for lost peace in civilization. What a subtle anti-gun film, to the point when there is fog I think of Brigadoon.
give him the stamp he worked very hard for this.
