Dear Travis Unified School District Board Members, We the undersigned parents, teachers, students, staff, and community members petition you to reconsider any negative action taken against Stephen Liles as Principal of Vanden High School. His potential dismissal and termination is wrongful and unjustified for the following reasons: A significant population of Vanden High School (students, parents, teachers, staff) finds Stephen Liles to be a highly effective principal who has reignited school passion and support at all levels within the school. He has implemented programs that motivate students by giving them engaging and exciting ways to pursue their academic dreams. He supports sports, music, school clubs, students, parents, and teachers. We can see no justifiable reason for considering any dismissal or termination. No just cause has been given and there has been no transparency in the reasons for terminating Stephen Liles. Any grievance that might have been filed should be dealt with in the same manner as when a teacher receives one; that is, support, cooperation, mediation, determining validity, and continuing support for a highly effective administrator. The Board should engage the community to determine the outcome of any potential action, and give consideration to the opinions of all populations that are served by Vanden High School. Firing Stephen Liles demonstrates disregard for a highly effective principal, and for the community that staunchly supports him. It is the School Board’s job to appoint principals. We ask that you use your authority to correct any wrongful action taken against Mr. Liles as principal of Vanden High School. We need excellent principals like Stephen Liles. We also need School Board leadership that respects and engages the entire community, upholds the policies of the district, and makes decisions in an open and collaborative manner.
