Women can also teach Krsna consciousness and have disciples if they are mature in their own bhakti.

Govinda Dasi ACBSP IMHO, the true meaning of “guru” has been lost in the scuffle of personal ambition since Srila Prabhupada departed. To become a true “guru” means one must be capable of delivering a soul from the clutches of repeated birth and death. That’s a tall order for anyone, male OR female. Most of the male gurus and leaders certainly haven’t proven trustworthy, or capable. Maybe the females can do better. Maybe. It’s a far bigger responsibility than I would ever want. But maybe some disciples are ready for this. It is a dangerous service, to take on another person’s karmas, without being on the liberated platform oneself. It can, and has, been historically disastrous. SOCIOLOGICALLY, I think female gurus are a good thing, because women by nature are caregivers, and so they will care for and provide for their disciples in a responsible manner, as real gurus should do, building ashrams for them, making sure their disciples are cared for and assisted in times of hardship, ill health and old age. Just as Srila Prabhupada cared for us, or tried to, until his ambitious leader disciples ransacked everything in Iskcon. Often the Iskcon male gurus have used their dakshine for personal extravagancies and high living, ignoring the needs of their disciples. Some have built mansions for themselves, but neglected to provide anything for their disciples, and their female disciples often end up destitute. So for SOCIOLOGICAL reasons, I AGREE with the proposal of female gurus 100%. But the bottom line is MONEY. Everyone knows that women bring in huge amounts of money, and the idea of allowing the female disciples of Srila Prabhupada have access to all that dakshine is quite horrifying to the all-male guru/gbc/grandpatriarchs of Iskcon. So the likelihood of this coming to pass is quite slim; they will find many ways to block it, even if it is passed. They don’t want to share their piece of the PIE. It’s all about the money. They babble on and on ab

This is important consideration. It must be concluded that if one is qualified to receive Mantra, one can be qualified to give Mantra! Thank you.

I support this pettition wholeheartedly. After all, shastra teaches us that ANYONE who has learned to control their senses and mind are eligible to have disciples. It never mentions gender which is a bodily characteristic, but consciousness as qualification and that is Krishna consciousness. Moreover, we are taught to follow the guru parampara and in our parampara there were many female diksha gurus like Gangamata Goswamuni, Jahnava Priya , Hemalata Thakurani and others. Thus, it is only natural that we have female diksha gurus now, as was the practice then. Being a diksha guru is a very difficult and thankless service, however not so for those who are in the right consciousness and those are rare. Why shouldn't we support those rare souls who are willing to take this hard service on themselves? On the contrary, we should fully support them and I give my vote without hesitation. Last, but not least, it was the desire of our Founder Acarya H.D.G Srila Prabhupada and we follow him then it is easy to accept this proposal and make ISKCON richer by adding qualified female diksha gurus to this service.

I support this as I believe Srila Prabhupada would want qualified Vaisnavis to be able to give initiation - as per the history and precedent of Gaudiya Vaishnavism.

Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu preached about devotional service, ecstatic love and the Absolute Truth by making Rāmānanda Rāya, a gṛhastha born in a low family, the speaker. Then Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu Himself, the exalted brāhmaṇa-sannyāsī, and Pradyumna Miśra, the purified brāhmaṇa, both became the hearers of Rāmānanda Rāya. Purport: Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura says in his Amṛta-pravāha-bhāṣya that sannyāsīs in the line of Śaṅkarācārya always think that they have performed all the duties of brāhmaṇas and that, furthermore, having understood the essence of the Vedānta-sūtra and become sannyāsīs, they are the natural spiritual masters of all society. Similarly, persons born in brāhmaṇa families think that because they execute the ritualistic ceremonies recommended in the Vedas and follow the principles of smṛti, they alone can become spiritual masters of society. These highly exalted brāhmaṇas think that unless one is born in a brāhmaṇa family, one cannot become a spiritual master and teach the Absolute Truth. To cut down the pride of these birthright brāhmaṇas and Māyāvādī sannyāsīs, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu proved that a person like Rāmānanda Rāya, although born in a śūdra family and situated in the gṛhastha-āśrama, can become the spiritual master of such exalted personalities as Himself and Pradyumna Miśra. This is the principle of the Vaiṣṇava cult, as evinced in the teachings of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. A person who knows what is spiritual and what is material and who is firmly fixed in the spiritual position can be jagad-guru, the spiritual master of the entire world. One cannot become jagad-guru simply by advertising oneself as jagad-guru without knowing the essential principles for becoming jagad-guru. Even people who never see what a jagad-guru is and never talk with other people become puffed-up sannyāsīs and declare themselves jagad-gurus. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu did not like this. Any person who knows the science of Kṛṣṇa and who is fully qualified in spirit
