How long did it take to get your letter after retiring? It's been 6 months so far and it's like my life is on hold waiting on that letter

It's bogus to be told you have to you have to separate in 1991. They then offer you $$ and then attempt to recoup it after retiring from another branch, expecting the full pre-tax amount. What a disservice to American veterans.

Not double dipping when it’s separation pay. My husband and I are both Veterans and my hubby is going through this. Complete BS!

Received notice in May 2018 ,for recoupment for SSB from 1996. on top of that VA sent notice that payment was supposed to have already happened in 2011.

My wife was given SSB pay to leave the Army early. Contract pay to be part of the reserve as well as a RIF payment. Now after being diagnosed with PTSD, 25 years later, the VA is deducting the SSB pay prior to actually making any payments to her. Another shell game by our fantastic government.

I am devastated, and in extreme mental distress, recently finding out , I have to pay back a SSB incentive that was given to me, years ago ..they took every single dime of my monthly income.. Which will cause a tremendous burden, due to financial hardship, I have not one dime to pay my rent, or buy food or clothing, I'm 58 years of age, suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury, back ,eye, hearing and knee problems ..my health was made worse being I'm the army, now they have taken away, what is entitled to me as a veteran of the United Sstates, I was never told, read, or even signed anything saying that , my SSB had to be paid back..I feel completely betrayed by my government, used and taken advantage of.. I could have stayed in the army, instead of taken an early out, I feel scammed ,lied TG o and manipulated.. No vet that was given this , separation pay under false pretenses should have to pay a dime..I'm so hurt, sad,and depressed I just want to give up..I can take losing a roof over my head, I can't even afford to buy groceries, or pay rent, I'm at risk of being evicted, as I speak.. I don't know what to do..please contact me at 415 310-2340. Thank you so much..God bless you

100% agree. Why do veterans who get disability have to pay , while others do not.
