The changes we demanded are officially being implemented after this long struggle. I am exhausted but relieved that the authorities finally acknowledged the need for accountability. We must remain watchful to ensure these new policies actually stick.

On October 14th, 2009, at the University of Western Ontario, London police officers felt the need to use excessive force against one man because of his behavior. Although some may claim these actions were needed to ensure the safety of the bystanders, we believe this manner could have been solved without multiple individuals repeatedly striking the victim with punches, kicks, and even batons as he was already pinned to the ground unable to do any harm. This is certainly not the first time we as citizens have heard about such incidences occurring within the London police force. We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to stop police brutality once and for all.

The emails I receive from you all are heavy but they confirm exactly why I started this. I have been spending my nights organizing the documentation we collected because the silence from the department is wearing me down. I am tired of this struggle but I refuse to let them ignore the reality of what happened.

Reaching this point in our campaign feels heavy because it confirms how many of us have been carrying the same frustration alone. I am exhausted by these recurring patterns but seeing this level of engagement reminds me that we are right to demand accountability. We are not backing down until those in power acknowledge the cruelty we have witnessed.

Ridiculous that they felt the need to use batons on a guy already on the ground. That is just straight up abuse of power.

If a regular person did what those officers did they would be in jail. Why are they different? Fix this mess now.

Seen this happen way too many times in this city. They act like they are above the law and nobody ever holds them accountable.
