Student Advisers to go?

At the departmental meeting recently there was discussion about the reassessment of how student support could be delivered. This is petition is to voice concerns about how it may be changed.

THE MAIN POINTS
>We do not want to lose advisers that have specific knowledge of our courses
>We want to retain their services close to the end users, for us it is currently in the Q block
>It would be beneficial for the management team at uni to have further consultation BEFORE any changes are made

WHO THEY ARE
Student Advisers are there to provide information and advice on a wide range of course related matters. Advisers can give advice and guidance on how to access services and information. They can provide information and help about: * how university regulations affect you, * options relating to module choice, * assessment regulations, * withdrawal and transfer to other programmes, * extenuating circumstances, * what to do if unforeseen personal circumstances affect your studies, * fees and student funding, * special examinations needs and arrangements.
It is very possible you've not needed their services as its usually a requirement when something unexpected happens, but it is then that you'll want someone knowledgeable about your specialism.

WHATS HAPPENING?
One of the possibilities is a replacement of the current system of student advisers that are assigned to our specific courses by a central hub of FET(Faculty of Environment and Technology) advisers. As this is yet to be decided it is uncertain if this will even remain in our faculty building. The centralisation of services and support could directly impact their quality. Additionally if this was to happen there is the possibility that students who do have specific issues may no longer have one point of contact when discussing their personal affairs. This petition is against the loss of our advisers so please support and sign below because if you are in the position where you need their help you'll definitely prefer the security of knowing they are there to help YOU!
