Petition To Protect The Use Deer Dogs On Public Land

More and more lands been shut off to public. Theres no say in where there 1080 is dropped. Theres more and more control on who goes where. Its time to make a stand on some of the rights to our new zealand so ill sign any petition thats saving something that doc want to control.

Hunting and dogs go together. DON'T take away another one of our hunting privileges.

A properly trained tracking dog that is bird prof and stock prof is a real asset to any meat hunter my dog is awesome on goats and deer and has never killed anything else isn't allowed to even be on the boat with me while fishing for trout in senic reserves it's pretty stink

the use of indicating dogs increases the chance of success for the hunter to find game which in turn aids the efforts of DOC in reducing the deer numbers. but also from humane side of things a wounded animal can be trailed with the dog and dispatched as quickly as possible so as to avoid a long and painful death. it is our job as hunters to ensure that all reasonable measures are taken to avoid any suffering of the animal.

Mass poison deer with 1080 then don't allow deer dogs???? DoC you are a joke! It will be a happy day forbthe native species & the country when your evil empire unravels.

Def need to allow dog access into areas where "at risk" fauna are not present or relevant aversion certificates are obtained for the dog(s).

I think there is some detail missing Paul, Why are they looking to ban dogs, what areas are they looking to ban and also what areas are already done. I am all for signing a petition but there has to be good reason and more detail which you have missed. Seems really odd to me, only thing i have picked up (from someone calling DOC )is they could be looking to add kiwi's in there .... does that just mean we have to have Kiwi trained dogs like other parts of the country (Kaweka, Haurangi, Ruahine??). Do you have your dogs Kiwi trained or are you against it??. Be interested in your thoughts

For alot of us our dogs are our best mates not just tools in the shed. Trying to promote this kind if control is to me saying you cannot hunt with your mates.

No problems with mandatory kiwi aversion training. What is the point of amazing wilderness if no one can use it? Conservation and recreation need to find a balance

Kiwi avasion will be DOCs largest concern. Push that draining dogs and certification willl result in no kiwi damage. Kiwi have declined by 2-3% over the last couple of years, hence the push for 1080.

Let's get the west coast to have access for dogs

Well-trained hunting dogs are an asset in the bush, not an issue and I'm all for allowing them on public land. Mine is bred and trained as an indicator dog, and stays close to me at all times. He's also avian aversion trained. I do more hunting and get more deer with him than I ever would without him. He's also very important for my safety in the bush, as I hunt alone. He shows the way back in the dark, and keeps me warm if I get caught out overnight. Don't ban my best mate!

I have 2 Vizsla's who hunt, they are great hunters and do it well. They indicate the deer and are not loose out of control chasers of the prey.

Good effective way to keep deer numbers down
