Why on earth would the council paint over a piece of fantastic art that has attracted tourists visiting our city, an eyesore i think not! An attraction yes in the best possible way showing what our wonderful coloutful city is about. Until of course planning dept in council wiped it out on the most important wekend of all GALWAY 2020 european capital cultural ! Its a pity they dont grant permission to half buildings in town that could do with lick of paint and good clean.

When I first came to Galway on a trip I saw this mural and it enticed me to buy a Claddagh ring (of course). I travelled for six weeks in total, then went home. A few months later I moved to Galway, and this was the main image I had in my mind, as I'm sure it is for many others visitors. This brought me back to Galway because it reminded me of culture and life and Ireland. Thus, it's removal is a dreadfully distasteful decision, at best.

It is such murals, street art, street performances, local talent, local food and drink that make Galway eligible for 2020 cultural capital. What and whose interest did this serve? Disgraceful!

Please EXPLAIN why GCC wanted this painted over and not your usual dribble please. Why don't you do something about the Corrib Great Southern hotel or Taffes shop or maintaining the square ....the dirt on the ground outside supermacs and BOI it's disgusting! You spend a lot of money on things that don't need doing and nothing on those that do. What about more cycle lanes or city parks and their upkeep. You don't deserve to win culture capital of 2020 you have no notion of what that means it seems. I'm disgusted.

Fix the small parts in need of t.l.c around the city!! Leave this beautiful work of art alone!! Such a lovely bright sight when walking down through Shop St to Latin Quarter. Especilly on rainy days. Shameful to remove it.
