The mural is coming back to the storefront after all. I am exhausted by the long back and forth with the city but seeing that art restored to our streets makes the struggle worth it. Keep an eye on the building in the coming weeks to ensure this actually stays.

URGENT: RESTORE the painting over of this piece of Galway culture - Claddagh mural on Claddagh Jewellers, Galway.

Following a long-running battle with planners, the beautiful Claddagh mural on Claddagh Jewellers Ireland was painted over at the start of July.
City planners objected to the design, scale and colour scheme of the iconic mural, which features the Claddagh, a Galway Hooker and, of course, Claddagh rings. (Text from Galway Independent).

Please sign to show that the people of Galway disagree! Even if it was too late to stop the covering up of this mural, it is an absolute disgrace to remove art from the City when other building are left dilapidated and in need of attention.

Reaching two hundred and fifty signatures will force them to acknowledge that this city has not forgotten the lost mural. My energy is drained but seeing the count climb keeps me moving forward. Please get this in front of others because we need that breakthrough now.

Fix the small parts in need of t.l.c around the city!! Leave this beautiful work of art alone!! Such a lovely bright sight when walking down through Shop St to Latin Quarter. Especilly on rainy days. Shameful to remove it.
Such a shame for this beautiful iconic piece of art had to be painted over. It had a big impact on me as a regular visiter to Galway. And really highlighted the importance of the Claddagh ring and where it comes from. It should be restored and as soon as possible , disgusting decision by council officials there
City planners your a disgrace. People love this bright colourful piece of art.In the year of our bid for 2020 this is a backward step.It has become a piece of Galway and now your narrow vision wants to take it away.Diversity is a good thing and it gives Galway it's unique and special atmosphere.
You can't hope to be a city of culture if you can't cope with murals. They will always be more visually attractive than ghastly office blocks that get sanctioned no matter how unimaginative and depressing they are. Enlightened cities actively seek and encourage street art on buildings.
It is iconic and like the photos on the walls of buildings at the docks, it is part of the arty side of Galway. We are known as city of artists and trade on that. Leave the mural as it is. It is the colour of the sea. The images relate to Galway and her history. Nothing will be as nice its place.
Disgraceful.

Why not do something about Taffe's, The old Townhouse Bar or any one of many horrible looking vacant properties. Leave a vibrant work of art be. It adds and does not detract from Galway city.
