Petition to commercialise use of feral Tasmanian deer

as a professional shooting business I would support culling of the growing deer population in Tasmania, so long as licencing and animal humane conditions are met. they are an introduced species and currently as far as i m aware our game meat industries are un able to process them due to much red tape. we currently hold tags to cull but have no where to send meat too except our own freezer. recreational shooters are in the same boat we all have restrictions on the culled deer. Venision is one of the best meats with much lower cholestrol than beef. a much more heart smart meat if only we were allowed to process it at qualified meat processes. which by the way would be a winner for all more jobs for the shooters to the workers who process them and the public who will eat them. the agricultural damage these deer are causing is astromical. as well as now the high risk to the general public on our roads causing several thousands in vechile damage and very soon in lose of life if these are not controlled...though I fear it maybe to late now as they are very well established, and too many do gooders that want to protect an introduced species. my only other issue is a lot of these deer are living in the suburbs now where they can not be culled due to very restricted firmarms legistration.[ and before you jump on your high horses I know theres very good reasons for the legistration].this i m not sure how this can be addressed as we have tried too for quiet some time now, we have met with councillors to discuss this very issue..so far no-one has come up with a viable safe answer.

The video footage I have seen is staggering, something needs to happen, just think of the fox money that could of gone into this and the ferrel cats !!!

We are at Birralee and have a herd of around 50 females eating us out. It’s ridiculous and must be changed

As an introduced species the deer should be culled much more than they currently are.

Fully support this proposal. This is way overdue. Deer have been protected for way too long and the population is out of balance.

When is the government going to pay us land owners, for agistment of their protected, introduced species?

I have been challenged by deer populations on several properties over 35 years. Whilst the "let em go and let em grow" concept sounds good it is confounded by recreational shooters who believe that more does equals more stags. This is incorrect. In my opinion the only way to check this rampant deer population is to make them commercially valuable and enable licensed commercial hunters to harvest significant numbers of does

The growth in the number of feral deer in Tas. Is exponential.This is because Fallow Deer breed annually,even in adverse conditions,and can survive to 20 years of age.This means that a doe can reproduce herself up to 18 or 19 times.
