URGENT ATTENTION... SAVE A LIFE! KEEP THE STOP SIGNS ON CENTRAL AVE.

We were headed west on 58th street this morning and were almost hit by a school bus heading north and traveling too fast on Central Avenue. This was the first time we realized the stop signs had been removed. Someone is going to die and/or get severely injured at this intersection. Please install something temporarily as the neighborhood gets accustomed to this new traffic plan-our neighborhood needs to be alerted to this change. We assume everyone is stopping at this intersection. Please be proactive and install a sign, lights or something for the next few months to alert folks!! Lots of kids, lots of drivers!!

KEEP ALL 4 WAY STOPS ON CENTRAL

The stop signs need to stay for the safety of the community. Sadly, the People of Indianapolis were deliberately misled regarding mass transit. Voters thought they were voting for people to be able to get to work with a better bus system. The bus system we have now is one of the worst in the country. Instead, your tax dollars bought a huge Indy Go staff that never existed before wearing Indy Go polos and still, no one riding the buses and no routes have been updated or improved to help those who truly need transportation to get to work. Do urban planners even exist anymore?

please, please leave the 4-way stops alone on Central. It's bad enough how you're screwing up the neighborhood, endangering children adds insult to injury

Please keep all 4-way stops - this is a residential area with many young children, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

Way too dangerous on Central and surrounding streets without these! There are SO many neighborhood children and pedestrians in this area!

While I support the Red Line, I think the stop lights will only encourage more traffic and faster speeds.

Each of the intersections with stop signs on Central has a long history of accidents and near accidents that prompted MKNA residents to demand that the city install the stop sign. 2-way stop signs are non-intuitive and dangerous, especially on the street in Meridian Kessler with the most pedestrian traffic from schools and churches. Shame on our "city planners" for their lack of common sense. Why does the city seem to be more interested in greasing traffic through our neighborhood streets than our safety. How many accidents is it going to take for this to be remedied?

This whole redline is a huge mistake. It's going to ruin our precious neighborhood.

As a SJOA parishioner I frequently travel Central from Westfield Blvd to 42nd & Central. Signage for the tables is poorly placed or non existent. Trees block some signage. Please review. If this is the sole solution, we as driver’s need to slow down immediately. And the Mayor’s Office needs to get into the neighborhood, especially schools with more detailed information on the need for tables, changes to stop signs at intersections and length of time tables will be on the Avenue. This was a poorly executed plan and the responsible DPW staff should be ashamed.

As an ardent supporter of the redline, I support the progress and understand temporary inconveniences. But, the planned 2-way stops substituting for the current 4-way is very dangerous. it should not happen. Driver's habits cannot be changed in a temporary change like this. Please recognize that. The inconvenience of commuters going slowly for a few months outweighs the risks of serious accidents.

As a huge supporter of the redline, I support the progress and understand the interim inconveniences. But, these two way stops replacing the 4-way stops are dangerous and should not happen. Keep them 4-way. Driver's habits are too automated; do not change temporarily.

Why removed stop signs which will increase speeds for the increased traffic on Central Ave.? It seems clear that increased traffic flow should come at the expense of safety for the neighborhood.

I am very concerned about the safety of our Meridian Kessler children. Central and 58th Street are becoming cut through streets and it is dangerous.

I oppose converting the 4 way stops at the 58 & 56 intersections. Once Central drivers become accustomed to driving through these intersections it increases the risk when converted back to 4 way stops. I speak from experience as my car was hit when 58/Central was converted to a 4 way stop several years ago.

As a resident of the Meridian Kessler neighborhood, I understand that the upcoming construction for the red line is intended to improve the city's overall public transportation services and widen the availability and distance the lines run. While I may agree with the big picture, I am living in a very different picture day-to-day. The reason I moved to this area of town and specific neighborhood was the amazingly convenient 15-minute commute to downtown, the quiet neighborhood atmosphere, and the safety I felt for myself and the children I live next to. Due to the speed tables on Central Avenue all of those major factors that made me choose to move to the area and spend my tax dollars and put personal funds back into the small local businesses have turned against me. The speed tables and subsequent traffic has at least DOUBLED my commute to and from work- the same amount of time as it would have been had I stayed in Hamilton County. Those drivers swerving around the speed tables, or choosing to launch over them at full speed are endangering the children and parents I see every morning and afternoon at the bus stops. The incessant noise from the speed tables on top of the increased traffic noise has taken almost all of the charm and peaceful nature from this oasis on the edge of the city. Please reconsider the use of speed tables and the placement of intersections, as we are tax paying citizens who deserve to feel safe in our own neighborhood- regardless of the city's overall public transportation goals.
