With the proliferation of ugly, soviet- style highrises that have been cropping up over the past decade, Rideau Street and the market are rapidly being turned into yet another Ottawa wasteland. Please stop the destruction of the downtown core before it's too late.

A 14-storey building on Rideau Street makes no sense to the esthetic of the street. A 6-storey maximum rule was put in place for a reason and should not be broken. This ill-founded decision to allow Richcraft to build such a tall building should be reversed. In future, perhaps the left hand and the right hand should get together once in a while at City Hall!

It has become the norm for "exceptions" to be made in height and density restrictions. A community Design Plan that was adopted by the City and the residents/businesses of an area should be adhered to. This perpetual disregard of Plans that were adopted by democratic and participatory means cannot continue to constantly favour the greed of the various developers for whom "exceptions" are constantly being made.

I am a long-time resident of Ottawa and I want to see the city well-developed. We already have too many high-rises and condos on Rideau Street.

There are already too many high rises in the area. i doubt the builders/developers are giving any realistic thought as to the true life use of such buildings.

What is the point of inviting residents to spend countless hours participating in the updating of the CDP only to have their views dis-regarded? I urge Council to build some backbone and reject the Richcraft proposal for 14 stories at Rideau & Cobourg.

Each time the guidelines get bent for a project, developers use it as a precedent for subsequent projects. Let's set the guidelines and respect the guidelines.

As a resident of the area I strongly encourage reconsideration of the proposal for yet more high rise development on Rideau Street. This will not build the kind of community that residents desire, nor will it contribute to revitalization of the neighbourhood.
