Intensification goals of the City can be achieved without allowing the building of high rise buildings on Upper Rideau Street. Developers should respect the rules and the City listen to the community.

Responsible development includes a respect for the heritage feel of neighborhoods and the wishes of its habitants who made what is likely their largest investment in their homes. Consider the economic attraction to small business vendors, tourists and resale home buyers in a neighborhood that offers value in an open landscape and unique main street feel rather than high density, lower quality housing. We should be competing with Westboro and the Glebe not the business core considering our proximity to the Market and all its appeal.

I am a resident of Centretown and regularly shop (Loblaws, etc) and attend the Bytowne on Rideau Street East. I have read the letter of 24 April from the President of ASH and I fully support its well reasoned and balanced intervention.

Unfortunately, our Mayor and our Councillor are so reliant on developer money for reelection and campaign help that citizens' complaints go in one ear and out the other....

I agree very strongly that the Community Development plan should be followed. The local Community needs and desires must be respected. All too often development is allowed which fails to recognise the existing community. It is very important to retain the 'people friendly' community which currently exists in this area. We have just returned from Amsterdam, one of the liveliest, exciting and loveliest low/mid-rise cities. This city is extremely people friendly. Just because we live in North America does not mean that we have to become just another 'Highrise city' a plastic copy of all the desolate North American cities. Jim Watson and The Councillors need to develop a backbone and 'Just say No to the Developers, Richcraft'.

I have an issue for the City making exceptions for developers. They're always doing that lately. What's the point of having guidelines in place, then? The neighbourhood (and the people in it) is more important than any number of developers.
