Update Animal Care Centers of New York City (NYC ACC) to No-Kill

All animals deserve the right to live a long and happy life

There shouldn't be any KILL shelters aywhere!

From what I can tell the ACC should be shut down all they want to do is kill animal but fix them and give them their shots in a name before they kill them they are absolutely disgusting

No words. These guys seem to not have common sense or compassion. They would be fitting in the third world. Things there need to change. Unbelievable

This has to stop! These animals have done nothing wrong, take it out on the dummies that are responsible! I am too sad everyday seeing these innocent animals pay with their life.

I AGREE WITH THIS PETITION & WHAT STATES. I & EVERYONE NOTICES THE SENSELESS KILLING OF HEALTHY LOVING PETS NYCACC DOESN'T EVEN GIVE THEM A CHANCE . WHERE IS ALL THE DONATIONS GOING. THEY RECIEVE DONATIONS FOR THE VETS. THEN AFTER THE PETS ARE WELL & READY FOR A LOVING FOREVER HOME. THESE POOR ANGELS GET KILLED. (PLEASE! MAKE NYC ACC A "NO KILL SHELTER" I WONDER WHO IS POCKETING THE MONEY FROM PUBLIC DONATIONS? WHO IS IN CHARGE THERE? WHO MAKES THESE HORRIBLE DECISIONS & RUNS THE NYCACC? THIS SHELTER IS ACTUALLY A CONCENTRATION CAMP. A DISGRACE FOR HUMAN KIND.

I have heard the utmost horrible things about this SO CALLED SHELTER it is a death camp a murder camp... things have to change these animals need our help and NOW

You need to give us more time to evaluate and find homes!!!

We have to be their voice, there should only be humane euthanasia when there is a health and quality of life reason.

Shocking! Barbaric! Brutal! Callous! Shameful! New York - a pet loving city? I think not! New York - my most favourite city in the world? Not any more! Happy memories tainted forever by this horrific discovery! Thank god I live in the UK where these high kill so-called 'shelters' do not exist and where any absolutely necessary euthanasia is carried out sensitively with the pet put to sleep so it does not suffer. Hang your heads in shame New Yorkers, your animal welfare stinks! Will America be great again? Not while this abominable situation is going on it won't! This is third world treatment of pets - it doesn't belong in the civilised world in 2017!

Atlanta is a no-kill city and adoptions have increased since they stopped killing.

They need to close the doors for good! Evil POSs that like to KILL rather than HELP the poor unfortunates that grace these places!!!

Additional comments here...ACC should NOT accept any stray cat it suspects of being a feral. Ferals should be TNR'd and released BACK TO THE COMMUNITY from where it was brought in. These cats serve a vital function in NY as they do worldwide. The indiscriminate labeling of dogs as APBT or PBT mixes disservices both the dogs AND the NYC community. NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority) as well as most landlords have a ban in place on APBTs and PBTs and either of those as mixed breed. How many dogs have been summarily destroyed because of being mislabeled APBT or PBT? Sadly, in an environment where animals should come first, it is the pockets of the 'figureheads' running things who benefit. First quarter of 2016 alone, $500k+ in donations from Petco customers via point-of-service donations. This does not include other private donations, this does not include funding from City taxes. And this is only for the first quarter of 2016. To prevent misappropriation and avoid conflict of interest, anyone serving on the NYCACC's Board should be totally independent of the system and should NOT be receiving any monetary incentive to serve on the Board. The oversight of NYCACC should be left to a totally independent organization - not the DOH (their oversight has done a great job of preventing the spread of disease in the shelters - NOT) - maybe representatives of the New Hope Rescues NYCACC so desperately depends upon. Without the New Hopes, NYCACC's kill numbers would at least triple! Obviously I could go on for days. Literally. The NYCACC is a pox on this City, and is an abomination to the animals it 'serves'.

The NYCACC systematically neglects standards of animal husbandry and practical care. Animals who soil their kennels are left for indefinite periods until the kennel and/or bedding is cleaned. Healthy animals come in only to be very ill just days later. Kennel cough in dogs and URIs in cats are preventable and every animal that comes through the door should automatically receive a vaccination. NYCACC sees it more cost effective to kill rather than to treat and adopt out. NYCACC uses in many cases expired medicines or lower doses than necessary, thus 'treating' an illness without truly treating it - in fact just making it more resistant to treatment. NYCACC uses a heart stick method of euthanasia - stabbing an animal in the neck or the heart (possibly missing the mark) with chemicals is NOT euthanasia. The system is entirely flawed. The people were lied to by NYCACC, the DOH and the Mayor - 2 additional shelters were promised and should have been up already, one in the Bronx and one in Queens. To date, that has not happened. All that exists are intake centers. How many people might reconsider surrendering their pets if they only knew the true horror lurking behind the name Animal Care Center? The NYCACC even changed its official name from New York City Animal Care and Control in order to boost its appearance. Rather than using all that money on boosting appearances, how about using it to treat with dignity and respect all the animals under their charge!?!
