Unsilenced: A Petition for Sexual Misconduct Policy Reform at La Sierra University

I am proud of the students who are giving a voice to this important issue, and the Universities misconduct and unchristian behavior.

Sad to see that the church and school system that I was raised up in from K-12 is doing worse of job in regards to gender (not sex) discrimination, sexual misconduct, and domestic abuse than the "heathen public university" that I belong to now. Upon leaving the Seventh Day Adventist education system and entering into the public education system, I saw immediate importance in these subjects that were otherwise swept under the rug, but actually not made a priority in the first place. I wish that these issues are resolved at La Sierra and even other Adventist schools and the SDA community soon. Students should feel safe at the institution that they choose to receive higher education from. -Adam S.

Like one in four women, I am a survivor of sexual assault. And like most survivors, I knew the man who raped me. When the one person I told didn't believe me, I didn't think anyone would. The shame I felt became a part of me that has colored every relationship I have had up to and including my marriage 20 years later. I am writing as a former student at La Sierra and a Christ follower. Faculty, administrators, and staff have a responsibility to do everything in their power to PREVENT sexual assault and to JUSTLY RESPOND to reports of sexual violence. Initiate sexual misconduct policy reform immediately.

This cannot continue!

I am embarrassed to be a graduate of a university that claims to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, and does not support the rights of the women it educates.

What kind of Adventist leaders are representing our Conference and the Bible teachings. You better go back & look up the guidelines given to Moses!

Disappointing to hear, but unfortunately unsurprising as well.

And this also applies to equal rights on campus for students of other faiths. I am an alumna, and encouraged my daughter to apply as well. She was accepted and dropped out after 2 quarters for lack of support for being another form of Christianity. She struggled to feel included. She was declined on-campus employment positions due to "not being SDA."

As a former student and graduate of Loma Linda University, I stand behind this petition and hope that LSU will heed a past motto we had in tbe 80's -WWJD!

This is a disgrace. I'm disappointed in La Sierra, especially being an adventist educational institution yet acting so much lower than they've claimed to have held their standards to be.

Alumni Class of 1990. My daughter currently attends La Sierra.

Stop the culture of shame and silence. We're better than this.

Let's stop hiding behind the Christianity banner. People are committing crimes and should be brought to justice.

It is time to end rape culture. Stop supporting the attackers and shaming the victims. Stop revictimizing the victims by allowing their attackers to remain on campus and in the same class. Stop blaming the victim for what the attacker chose to do.

I went to LSU for 2 years. This is it ok.

Adventist Education is so effed right now. All because Administrations would rather protect their public image than the students. Same goes for PUC! Parents please spare your children from either getting assaulted or being censored. Just because you want to put your students in an Adventist school for the namesake, doesn't mean that they'll be safe from everything and clearly the people your'e entrusting your daughters and sons to don't care enough and they want to eat up your money. La Sierra and PUC are leaving scars on their students!

As an alumni I cannot believe this is happening at my alma mater. This issue that cannot remain unaddressed. Thank you for taking the time to stand up for our rights as females, students, and humans. Your work is appreciated!
