I truly could write an entire essay on this. Although I completely understand that this is being done with the intention of keeping students “safe” and out of trouble, assigning designated times to use the restroom and locking every other bathroom in the building is, simply put, unethical. With this new policy being enforced, your concern for students that choose to misbehave proves to be stronger than that of your concern for sophisticated, well-behaved students. With a six-and-a-half hour school day, I should not have to travel up or down two to four flights of stairs at any point to urinate. Consider this as well: the lack of restroom availability during the day will only create more hallway traffic—in turn, knocking the purpose of a policy with good intentions by having children excuse the fact that they were gone from class for an extended period of time due to the long walk and/or bathroom line. Along with this, the unfortunate policy technically violates school policy by contradicting what is stated in the Fall River Public Schools handbook: the school may not discriminate against students based on their gender! This policy inherently discriminates against (cisgendered) women, as 30% of high-school aged females suffer from an undiagnosed reproductive disease, often times causing irregular menstrual cycles. This well-meaning policy is therefore more likely to cause embarrassment for young girls. (If you’re questioning my logic here, imagine realizing you got your period in the middle of math…on the fourth floor of the building…and then having to walk across the school and down four flights of stairs with a blood stain on your pants.) I get that the policy is well-meaning, but if you break it down, it’s doing more bad than it is good. You may not agree with me, but I am not speaking as an individual. I speak for hundreds, if not a thousand students. If your argument is that electronic cigarettes are illegal and have a negative impact on a teen’shealth, the logi

Again punishing the majority because of the minority . Get the parents with the students who are breaking the rules involved . If they have to go into schools for meetings they will address the issue at home.

It's always the few that ruin it for others. With that said, having access to the bathroom is important. Come up with a better schedule. Come up with better monitoring. Someone suggested opening them up before first period and that makes sense. We don't do that to the educators so why would we do it to the students? Come up with a better system unless you want all the students to rebel by all pissing their pants at the same time.

I have a foot problem and am physically incapable of walking up and down the stairs everytime I have to pee . I understand why they did but to the people who don’t skip and don’t do damage to the school bathrooms do not deserve this unfair rule . It is unfair to people who have physical disabilities . I signed this petition because females and males of durfee high school deserve to pee on the floor we have for a class .
