The lack of spaces is clearly discriminating against those with care responsibilities (so disproportionately women) and as such should be addressed as part of The Equality Scheme 2016-2020. For me personally I now have to put my young children into additional childcare from 7.30am and at a cost of £5.50 per day per child in order to guarantee a space to park so I can deliver 9am teaching. I cannot leave early to compensate due to the nature of my job - teaching can be scheduled until 7pm. I know of colleagues that have missed their children's school plays because they could not risk leaving during the day and not finding a space when they return. I note that the spaces dedicated to professors and senior admin staff are rarely fully occupied...

I have to take my children to school before coming onto work. This means I arrive around 9.20am and it is by then very hard to find a parking space. I drive past many spaces occupied by portakabins, skips and work vans. I pay up front out of my salary to park and yet getting a space is meaning I have to spend an increasing amount of time looking for and waiting for a parking space.

I travel by train when I can but need to use car for dropoff/pickup of equipment at times. This is now impossible anywhere around the station end of campus

I work a shift pattern that requires me to work afternoon/evenings for two weeks out of every four. When I arrive for the afternoon shift it is virtually impossible to find a parking spot either on campus or in the multi-storey car park. I pay each month for the purple car parking permit which is deducted from my pay, yet cannot use it on the afternoon/evening shift pattern.

I am constantly working more than an hour in excess of my daily hours to arrive in time to get a space. This is unpaid and unappreciated and eats away at one's motivation

Parking on 11th October was completely impossible at 9am. There was a large sporting event held and this together with the closure of several carparks and the large amount of contractors' vechicles taking up places from very early in the morning has made the situation impossible and stressful, particularly for those of us who cannot travel on public transport.

I do not drive personally. But I do feel emphatic to all my peers as well as the staff members who have issue with car parking space. The University has to take an action to manage this situation. It is not fair for students and staff members to pay for fines and be penalized for the lack of car parking space. These people have life too. They can't just drive to the Uni at 7am to ensure they have car parking space for the day.

It is so hard to get a space post 9am, I would dread trying to leave for a meeting off-site during the course of the day. The traffic around the Uni is very,very busy at 8am - feels like all road traffic congestion leads to the Uni. Very suprised that there are no comms from the Uni advising of traffic provision for staff. At the moment the traffic regulator must be making a bomb on fines. Not good for staff. I have every sympathy.

Parking has got worse over the years, but now it’s just non existent. I have to drop my little one off and then come to work but there are no parking spaces plus parking on side roads are full. Why can’t the University build a multi storey car park within the site. They have plenty of money to knock down the library which in my personal view was a waste of money!

The issue is exascerbated by the workmen using the North East car park instead of their allocated parking where the North car park formerly existed. There are in excess of 40 vehicles some mornings which seems unreasonable given the fact they have the opportunity to park elsewhere though prefer not to have to walk as far to their site next door to North East.

Just a note: ....and the new sport center parking space stays empty all day long. Can't the University find an agreement with 360 until more parking spaces are available ?

Some of us do not have a choice but to come to work by car. We have young children who need to be dropped off, I then come to work. After work I pick up my children before going home. This means I can not travel by public transport because this is just not feasible in any way. I am very dependent on my car and I need to bring my car to work and hence park. I can arrive after 9am and there is next to no parking whatsoever. Everyone's needs should be taken into account.

The present chaotic situation caused by extreme lack of parking discriminates against academic staff. Admin staff arrive at 8:30 and most get parking spaces. If research at the highest level is wanted,
do not expect academic staf to work 9 - 5.

I also spent 40 minutes looking for a parking space last week. I ended up parking in the empty car park of the new Sports building. It is outrageous that staff who teach at the university are forced to pay £25 per day for parking.
