It is absolutely ludicrous that I should have to leave 45 minutes early for work when travelling 4 miles just so I can spend 30+ minutes looking for parking.. This is becoming a daily occurrence. It doesn't help that we have to start work at 9:15 and by that time even the NE CP has been full. Its all a bit rich considering I have to pay for parking each day regardless of whether I have actually been able to find UoB parking.

If you have children to sort out first thing (eg: school run it is a knightmare.) I signed up for shared parking with a colleague but what a waste of time that is. If you arrive anytime after 9 they are all gone anyway.

If you arrive after 8.30, there is no parking, and many many spaces are takien up by contractors vans - do they pay ???. You could end up driving around for a hour. I now have to come to work earlier just to park or i'll end up getting in too late! Grrrrrr!

I had a team member who had to arrive later due to taking his partner to the doctor. When he arrived at around 9:30, he was unable to park - drove around for the best part of an hour, before giving up and booking the day as annual leave. Not a good way to use up ones annual leave allowance...

The situation is dire for working parents who cannot get to University in time! Also, why are contractors allowed to park in the North East car park where their vehicles take up dozens of places? Yet at the same time some seem to park in the old North car park, could not all contractors simply park there?

Increasing limitations on parking space have an important negative impact on incomes and work-life balance, both of which have already been eroded by university policies that have produced prolonged pay "restraint"and increased workloads. No one at the UoB should think this an acceptable direction to go in.

I agree with all the comments above. We have had visitors who have been late for sessions becuase they could not find parking, Staff memebrrs who are late despite leaving home earliers because they couldnt find a space. I myself had to take annual leave for a medical appointment becuase I would not have got parking when I came back and public transport was not available. Had there been a parking space availabel I wouldhave been able to return to work after and make the time up. Coming to work after 8.30 gives you little to no chance you will get a space.

I have struggled to find space to park due to the closure of various car parks over the years, and most recently, the North car park. As a member of staff on a 0.7 contract, I cannot afford to take the train in peak hour traffic and even if I could travel by train, I would not be able to take my children to nursery. There needs to be more parking to ensure staff and students who travel a long distance can park and attend their classes.

People with school age children who are dropping off children at school have no chance of finding parking on campus. People with caring responsibilities who are coming to work after 8:30 have no way of finding parking on campus. People who might need to rush for a doctor appointment and plan to return to work have no way of finding parking again. Where is the Athen Swan ( as women are in many cases the ones who take on more caring responsibilities traditionally)?

I'm waiting for the day when I have to cancel teaching because there's nowhere to park. I hope the university will explain to students paying £9000+ a year that they can't even organise adequate parking for the academics who teach them.

since the university is more likely to listen if we can *quantify* lost work time, I wonder whether we can give an idea of how much time in a week we now waste searching for spaces or parking in selly oak. I lost nearly 40 mins one morning last week alone - being forced to park at the top of selly oak.

I am working at the new Dental Hospital, but find the parking (well, lack of it) rather shocking when I have to get to Campus later than 8.30 in the morning.

It is a struggle, especially for working parents that cannot get in before 8.30am to secure a parking space. The University is building on everything and not giving any thought to their staff.

This is all rendered still more 'unfriendly' by over-zealous parking attendants slapping parking fines on people who find themselves with no alternative but to park (safely) on the many, many areas of yellow lines....

The multistorey NE car park is full now by the time I get to campus. It didn't used to be full when the north car park was open. Should we mention the chaos when there are open days on campus and lots of visitors rock up in their vehicles too? With the additional loss of the Munrow car park, the Biosciences area where there is now a new building being erected, parking lost here and there around campus for scaffolding and builders portacabins, builders vehicles in a lot of the car parks etc - it is very hard to find anywhere to park. If it's bad now...what's it going to be like when the new hotel opens with a suggestion I have heard that 100 spaces are given over to that!!! Whilst there may be plans for multi storey car parks to be built at the edge of campus - that doesn't solve anything NOW. And for those of us with mobility issues but no Blue Badge - please put in a lift. How about putting in car parks that are STAFF ONLY (no students, no visitors and no contractors!)?
