University of Birmingham car parking

After 08.00 am all the car parks are full. It's very difficult to park anywhere. I also see several contractors parked in spaces where staff have the right to park

Staff need to be able to park, no one who drives to work does so out of choice.

For the past year I have started lectures at 10am, yet I have to come and park up at 7am to find a free parking space. I live 9.5 miles away from the university, so I am not eligible to get a permit to enable myself to pay £1 parking for all day. I generally have to pay £6-8 when using the car park which is ridiculous considering I do not have the funds to do so. I struggle to stay focused in university due to this. I do not think it's fair that due to me living 0.5 miles too close to the university I have to pay £6+ each day. if it was £2-3 parking for all day I wouldn't be complaining.

Everyday after 08.00 am the campus and all the car parks are full. It is difficult finding spaces to park. This is a very serious issue that really needs to be looked at.

It is now difficult to make any local visits during the day, because there is no parking available on returning to the University.

For those of you complaining about driving a "considerable distance to the university" it's worth pointing out that your employment contract requires you to live a reasonable distance from your workplace. If you commute hundreds of miles and can't get here any earlier, the complaint that you live too far away is not a valid one. And for those you that keep parking in the 2+ bays without permits so when my car share and I arrive there are none left - I've been reporting every damn one of you to security!

I travel a considerable distance to the university, so public transport isn't an option. It is EXTREMELY frustrating that sometimes there are absolutely no spaces in any of the onsite car parks. Even under the old arrangements there wasn't enough parking for staff and as soon as the new arrangements were publicised it was obvious there would be a severe shortage - and so it has turned out to be. The university DESPERATELY needs another multi-level car park. This time with a lift!

Parking has always been a problem for me working a later shift. These changes have made it impossible. Investment in Parking please, there is a lot of money coming in for Parking Charges, can't this be used to create more parking.

Parking is the worst I have ever known it in the 14 years that I have worked here. Most of my colleagues have to arrive an hour earlier before they start just to have a better chance of parking. Multiple vans across campus taking up 2 or 3 spaces, most notably on the old Munrow car park. The whole system needs an urgent overhaul because staff are increasingly getting frustrated, agitated and morale in the work place is at an all time low mostly due to situations like this one!!!

Trains are infrequent between my home and the university, so if I have an after normal working hours commitment it makes better sense to drive, I can no longer do this due to the lack of parking which means I am not able to attend research seminars or train with the sports club in Birmingham that I was happily a member of. This is a real issue for work-life balance and I can't imagine the affect it has had on working parents and those with accessibility concerns.

I now have to park more than a mile away from the office and walk in. Sometime as far away as Harborne Primary School! Have also had to pay a £100 fine last week for attempting to park in the completely empty 'Research Park' bays on Pritchatts Rd. So I am fully in favour of any measures to sort this problem.

As someone lucky enough to live locally and well enough to cycle into work, I would still like to voice my support for this campaign. I know colleagues who have spent an hour or more driving round looking for parking before giving up and driving to relative's houses to beg a lift in to work. This has a serious impact on making meetings on time as well as a knock-on effect on other, already very busy staff who need to cover or ring round and postpone meetings on their behalf. The situation is beyond ridiculous.

I struggle to walk long distances and therefore can't get the train, i have had to park in the hospital car park which is the nearest one to my office over the last few weeks, and its costing me up to £20 a day, this is not acceptable.

I understand the situation may get worse when the new "hotel" opens if guests have preferential access to the new multi-storey car park

Worked here for 14 years and this is the worst it has ever been.

Parking is becoming so difficult that unless you are in before 9:00 there are no places available. This problem is not localised, but is across campus. The "cross our fingers and hope everything works out " approach clearly isn't working.

I regularly travel i from further afield and find it impossible to park after 8:45 since the decision was made to close half the car parks and fill the rest with construction vehicles. Please get this sorted.

Arrive at 9:30 due to child care arrangements. Often can't get a space. Get it sorted.
