University of Birmingham car parking

Insufficient parking regulated by external company with in necessary parking fines.

I manage to get in around 8am and fortunate enough to find parking, but my colleagues who arrive even at 8.30 seem to struggle to find spaces. It's getting ridiculous now!!

Beech House suffers from UoB sports users using spaces also from the Business School and is regularly used as a cut through from Edgbaston Park Road to the Bristol Road as there is no banner (speeding cars). Staff coming in later to cover the late shifts are not able to park also multi storey is packed by gone 9, staff with children need to do the School run and suffer to get a space to park

Contractors/builders should park in the near empty sports centre car park (which permit holders cant use) and free up spaces around campus. Build a new multi storey at the Munrow?

My job involves me going out to visit schools and then on return I drive around endlessly to try to park again.

Parking is just ridiculous for everyone now, with the North car park being closed. I arrive on campus at just after 8am and have to drive round looking for a space. I cant afford public transport because a train pass is £95 per month even with staff discount, so I have to park on campus.

Parking on campus is ridiculous!

I have three children and have to do school runs so don't get to work until 9.15 am. Today, I have spent 1 hour and 15 minutes trying to park - three car parks that I came across are closed. The car parks that are open, spaces are taken with building work, scaffolding and work vans. It has been a really stressful morning and can only get worse!!!!

It's the same on the Vincent Drive Car Park. There are a number of car spaces available for the research park that are hardly used - could these spaces be used for university staff?

Parking on campus is ridiculous, arrive after 9:00 and you struggle. This is a nightmare for parents.

This is ridiculous, the builders for all the building work are using the gisbert kapp multi storey as well which is fine if there is enough space. But surely you can see there will not be enough if they as well as public etc are taking up all the parking spaces.

Unfortunately like many others I am struggling to park on campus, I usually get into work by 08:15 and there are few or no spaces left near my office. This usually wouldn't be a major issue but due to a recent medical condition walking is proving difficult.

Surely a member of the SMT will read this petition and provide a suitable response to all colleagues who have commented on the lack of car parking spaces and the impact that it is having on their working life? It is after all supposed to be the 'Week of Wellbeing' at the University - is it not ??

I do no start work until 8.30am but if I do not come in early I will not get a parking space. I think people from the hospital are parking in the new car park just opposite the Medical School. The situation is ridiculous. I have worked at the University for 26 years and over the past 5 years it has got gradually worse. There are too many parked on the pavement too. You nearly get run over walking on the pavement.

I am in a similar situation to others signing this petition. A combination of childcare commitments and the current chaos on the M5 prevent me from arriving on campus before 9 am, by which time parking bays are close to non-existent. I have no public transport alternative. The University has stated that ‘car parking will return to previous levels over the next six months’. I would like to see the plans of where they are going to be.

The impact on roads in Selly Park is getting steadily worse. Apart from that the parking shortage does not affect me directly most of the time because I can walk in. But when I need to drive in (e.g. when I have to ferry visitors, or have a heavy load), mornings and early afternoons have got worse and worse over the last few years. Clearly nobody at the top cares. The problem will never be addressed properly until senior managers/administrators are deprived of reserved spaces, so that they are no longer sheltered from the problems.

50 mn to find a space to park !!! Please do something !!

I arrive before 8am, and the amount of builders' vans and contractors occupying parking spaces at that time, simply adds to the shortage of spaces for university staff. Anyone arriving after 8.30 stands little chance of finding a space, and most people with family commitments of all ages, cannot choose their time of arrival. I would like to know if the builders and contractors are charged like the rest of us for parking on site?

The time I arrive on campus following the school run hasn't really changed over the past 5 years. The number of parking spaces available at that time (08:45) has declined massively. Either all the Universities attempts to promote public transport, cycling, car share etc. have failed, and there are now many more people driving to work, or there are far fewer parking spaces. It isn't rocket science what the problem is. I now typically don't even bother trying campus and go direct to one of the residential roads in Selly Park. If you add up all the time lost looking for spaces across all staff affected, as well as time lost eventually parking off campus and walking back in, then the cost to UoB is no doubt considerable.

My frustration at the 45 minutes it took me to find a space last week was made worse when I was informed that the new hotel being built does not include any parking provision. Presumably the guests will park on campus so we will lose even more spaces. Sadly I don't have the luxury of coming in on public transport, so that isn't an option.
