The 225 comments so far say it all. Reading through them just echoes my feelings and also makes me even more angry to hear the stress that colleagues have endured! The situation is completely unacceptable for staff at the University. Telling us to use public transportation is great if it was more reliable, accessible and we received better discounts for University staff on rail passes etc. However, this is still not a solution or a least bit helpful to those with caring and childcare commitments. The parking situation needs to be reviewed and addressed immediately.

people should be able to park at hills and chancellor court and more parking should be available.

The situation regarding lack of parking is absolutely ridiculous. What spaces that are still available are being taken up by contractors. The car sharing spaces are empty.

Yes, I am one of them struggling to find a place to park.
UoB should think about New Sports Centre Car Park to be used by staff where at any time, only less 10% places are used, but staff couldn't park there.

As a student, I pay a lot of money to attend university and I don't feel as if it is fair that such a simple issue such as parking is affecting my ability to learn. The lack of parking has meant that I have been late to very important dissertation lectures and meetings.
Yes I understand the University's need to expand and improve for future students but it shouldn't be at the expense of current students and staff.

I received an email the other day stating that the University is set to spend more than £600m on the estate over the next five years. Why the University thinks it is acceptable to invest all this money without replacing the parking spaces that they seem determined to remove across campus, almost on a daily basis, let alone creating additional ones, is beyond comprehension. Finding a space in the morning is a stressful event. Finding one after 10am when you are on shift work, is an impossibility. Stressed workers do not make productive ones. Does the University not realise this? Spend a fraction of this investment on one or two large multi-storeys and invest in staff welfare (stress levels), for a change.

Most of us have children to drop off and pick up from school. We do not get flexi time. A car is cheaper for myself compared to public transport, and more safe. I have been mugged twice on public transport with a knife to my face.
If they can spend nearly 100 million on upcoming building projects, sure they can make car parking spaces for their hard working staff ..

Where i understand parking is a privilege and not many institutes give this facility, to remove parking in 17/18 and not replace it till almost a year later 18/19 is beyond comprehension, and when you hear colleges complaining about not finding charge points for eco cars it makes you question getting one. it should be an incentive like the 2+parking so more 2+ and more electric/electric-hybrid car spots would encourage more than removing parking.

Parking on campus is tricky at the best of times and I appreciate that we *should* be persuaded to take public transport where possible and appropriate.
The current issue is that an unprecedented build programme has meant that parking spaces have been lost to scaffolding and construction vehicles - The ground floor of the north carpark for example is all white vans and Arts/Muirhead car park (including charging points) is closed off completely.
Last Wednesday it took me 87 minutes to park may car during which I used my laptop to connect to the university wireless to send and receive emails.
As I say, its difficult but maybe we should have created more spaces before we removed them and not the other way around. I would be interested to see what can be done in the short term (as I am guessing that all changes are parking-neutral in the long term?)

Although I walk to work the parking situation is increasingly impacting on my role and having a visible detrimental effect on colleagues. I am stepping in at the start of classes that begin at 12pm, 3pm etc., sometimes for upwards of 15 minutes, because our specialist bought in teachers or guest speakers are unable to find parking on campus, despite arriving on site 30 minutes or more before their session begins. This is embarrassing for me and my colleagues, and also unfair on the people we have invited in to share their expertise and on the students. I also often have meetings off campus and on occasions where my colleague has to drive due to location we have often been unable to find space to park on our return. I wholly support walking/using public transport when possible, but for lots of staff and guests it simply isn't viable. It shouldn't be the case that we are having to second-guess where a guest may find a parking space and attempting to give directions over the phone, after sending out permits, directions etc. well in advance.

Lack of parking for staff and the increasing number of spaces being taken away is going to disrupt student and staff alike as if staff can not park we can not teach

As more and more parking spaces disappear from the campus, the latest being the North Campus car park, it is almost impossible to find a parking space after 8.30. All staff should have sufficient parking space available near to where they work.
