A UNITED AIRLINE SHOULD BE -- AN INCLUSIVE AIRLINE

Thank you for considering this petition. Please review; if you agree in concept, sign the petition statement at the bottom.

Present

  • United Airlines employees have raised their voices in response to the lack of diversity within the United Airlines enterprise.
  • Upward mobility of minority employees has been hindered and all stakeholders in UAL have been adversely affected.
  • We, the employees, are all fundamentally united through the collective success or under-performance of this Company. In the same spirit, we must unite to defeat the denial of promotional opportunities at this airline by no longer tolerating exclusion for any skilled employee - either a person of color, sexual orientation, one trying to break out of a particular discipline or any other systematically excluded class.
  • Litigation has again become necessary to require United Airlines management to address this issue.
  • The pending merger with Continental Airlines, creates an urgent need to establish firm diversity policies. There is a serious need for United Airlines management to fully embrace a robust diversity initiative. A strong initiative will ensure that employees will have the opportunity to be promoted into upper level management positions (including vice president, president, director and chief executive officer positions) when their experience level demands preference over less-qualified candidates.

Specific Remedies Recommended

  • We demand more promotional opportunities for management-qualified personnel.
  • We urge support from political representatives, civil rights organizations and others who support us in this movement toward real change.
  • We encourage leaders of United Airlines to develop policies and procedures that ensure accountability for promotional policies and foster change that employs the strength of a diversified management team and engaged workforce.
  • We are certain that our efforts will make United Airlines a model of diversity by demonstrating the value diversity initiatives deliver:
  • Creative customer service, more innovative business solutions, and Strategic risk-taking that generates the best returns to our customers.
  • We boldly take this stand for all employees working for United Airlines.

Statement of Support

I, the undersigned employee of United Airlines, do hereby express my commitment to positive change. I advocate for a more diverse range of perspectives in management to usher in expanded growth for our Company by promoting qualified employees into positions of management and of executive planning at United Airlines.
