I am immensely moved by the student response to the redundancies currently being fostered on their tutors. Administrators and industry professionals do not have training in pedagogical practice. This is alarming.

As a graduate of Unitec's Design school I think this is a ridiculous move.

This sounds like a case of justifying the casualisation of academic positions by pretending that industry "experts" can teach as well as teachers. (This is not to say that teachers can't also be industry experts, nor that Unitec won't just hire back its teachers to fill this role.)

A poor business decision executed incompetently. Unusual for any tertiary education provider to dismantle the very same department that built their reputation and gave them a competitive edge in a tight marketplace. Shortsighted vision.
