Ity is a shocknig indictment that the leadership at all levels of UNITEC should dismantle a flagship programme and losedecades of intellectual capitaland creative experience when the Government is seeking greater innovation and creative enterprise. It doesnt make business sense or drive productivity growth. Reviewing the programme is educationally sound, dumping it is dumb.

As an art educator in a neighbouring secondary school, this is both scandalous and shortsighted as a means to an end. It undermines the consistently high level of Creative Industries that existed at UNITEC to replace it with an untested, unknown and unpopular mandate by governance.

Your teachers are industry professionals. They are respected artists, designers and researchers who also have developed a skilled understanding of how to transmit their practical and theoretical knowledge. I think that this is a huge mistake and that Unitec will come to regret this decision Students will go elsewhere. Other schools will benefit and may arise out of this negligent decision. Education and learnign is as good as the relationships between teachers and students. In recent studies this has been PROVEN.

As a sometimes teacher of Art and Design at Secondary School level, I am horrified to see what Unitech as just put into place. I have always held Unitech's Design and Visual Arts departments in the highest of regards. What on earth are Unitech thinking? Qualified experienced teacher and tutors who are passionate about what they do and how they teach are an invaluable asset.
