These are are more than teachers. They are mentors. Art practise is not only about art but it is a personal journey and these people guide to use your personal choices and experiences into careers.

a very similar thing happened with our second year of our bachelor of humanities at TeWhare Wananga o Awanuiaarangi, where they fired industry experts and hired a foreigner to teach maori visual art and design (who also had his own design business on the side)

As a tenured professor in the humanities in the U.S., I stand with my colleagues in NZ and the brave students who know how much education matters.

I absolutely sympathize with my colleagues in New Zealand - this is a truly frightening development. And - as a faculty member at a public university in the U.S., I fear that my workplace is going to use precedents like this one to make me 'redundant'....

I am appalled by the news some of the best teachers I studied under during my time at Unitec are being made redundant to make way for a tiny number of "administrators". How can this even be considered? It will destroy the programme. The programme could certainly use some change (or at least it did when I finished my degree in 2011), but this is emphatically not how to go about it. Keep the amazing talent on your staff!

I am a new student at Unitec starting my first year of BDVA. I am worried for what my future is going to be as a student at Unitec with hardly any help from the few teachers we are going to have.

I imagine 570 students are very unique and different in many accounts. Finding a teacher and mentor that understands you in my view is the most important part of education. Having a greater number increases that chance. Reducing the staff to 17 and making them only part time seems to directly affect the quality of education to those who pay for it. I wouldn't worry about current students not getting jobs. Id worry about future students going elsewhere. Good job Unitec directors!

I currently work in the Profession of architecture and know through talking to many principle architects that they would not hire students from Unitec if the same outcome happens to the LAND. I can imagine the same is happening in the Design world
